The Schynige Platte bahn begins it's journey alongside the Berner Oberland Bahn at Wilderswil.
Mainly electrically propelled, the little engines have a big task getting their carriages up to the top station, but they manage it, in July, through flower strewn meadows. A little walk takes you up to the Hotel/Restaurant where we were met by a couple of people playing Alpen Horn. Quite tuneful. A Coffee and Cake later we set off on the circular walk. Every so often there are vertical wooden posts with slots cut through to indicate notable views. One large wooden frame takes in the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau for you to pose with. A nice new set of cow bells for people to ring, a Marmot colony, although the little chaps were all underground when we got there. The alpine plant garden and the highest alpine meadows in the area rounded off the walk. On the Saturday we were treated to the sight of an ancient steam locomotive taking its turn to go up. A lovely sight as it disappeared in a cloud of smoke and steam!
