“Classic luxury”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

We stayed here with a 2.5 years old in summer. It was our first visit.

Among all the luxury hotels in Gstaad, this is the most classic choice. It towers above Gstaad, everyone knows "The Palace". It is in family hands for over 100 years, and you do get a feeling of a boutique family operation while you stay here.

Our expectations were high, and we were not disappointed. We got a newly refurbished room on a higher floor and albeit it wasn't huge, it was very pretty, very comfortable and very well equipped with luxury brand amenities, all the way down to a special bath robe and slippers for our little one.

The service is great, very warm and welcoming and it seems every staff member has graduated from hotel school in Switzerland.

We enjoyed a fabulous continental breakfast with a great view of the alps (great selection but not much choice for Asian guests), the other meals we ate downtown.

There is a good program and god facilities for children. From kids menu to brand name baby chairs to indoor playground, activities and cinema with popcorn kids do get a special treatment at the Palace.

Generally travelers to Gstaad tend to be above 50 years of age, a good portion in pension already and the guests of The Palace Hotel seems to fall into that pattern.

We can recommend the hotel to any family who is looking for a peaceful luxury time out, who want to experience an old fashioned charm of the alps.

Room Tip: ask for a newly refurbished room.

My wife and I stayed at here for 3 nights This was our second visit.

The Hotel exudes old fashioned service and charm at the very highest level so if you are looking for chic/modern/contemporary this is not the place for you.

It is not that easy to explain the difference between a hotel that is very good and one that is excellent - you just know it when you see it - and this hotel is excellent.

Little things make a difference - just the right amount of room furniture in the right position, plenty of hanging and storage space, loads of clothes hangars that are not annoyingly attached to the hanging rail, rooms made up early in the day when you are not there, staff saying yes instead of no when you ask for something completely different on the menu.

I could go on and on but you get the picture.

Its not cheap but you get what you pay for - we will definitely return.

This is truly a wonderful hotel, situated in a gorgeous and privileged setting. It has a rather fairytale appearance and the experience of staying there is in keeping with this.
Despite this being a luxury hotel the staff are very friendly. In fact they are a lot nicer than many of the boutique staff in the town itself, who act like the snotty pair in "Pretty Woman".
Everything is ultra-comfortable whether it be the bed, towels, robe or anything else you might use and the whole place is impeccably clean.
The food is equally wonderful and the staff in the restaurant provide a faultless service.
This is a hotel that I would highly recommend at any time of the year, in fact it would almost be a shame to visit in the ski-season and spend all day away from the place. Be warned though, once you have experienced the pleasure of staying at the Palace it´s highly likely you will want to go back!

The meaning of Luxury is a stay at this wonderful hotel.really huge rooms on the first floor with a large terrace was excellent , the rooms were so well equipped that one does not need to call for anything. The house keeping was of a very high standard, and each day during the stay the whole bed including the shams etc were made and all the pillows placed.
The spa was really nice and both the indoor and the outdoor pool maintain a very comfortable temperature level.
The restaurant was excellent and the food was of a very high standard and the service i cant tell you enough about, for i think one of the best i have experienced.
The staff in the whole hotel was s helpful and smiling genuinely all the time.
This is really a Palace and even though they now have competition in the form of a newly opened hotel across the road, still believe you me the competition is no competition in the true sense. This truely is a very grand hotel .The tennis courts were very busy when we were there but one could book and use them esily.
Will definately want to get back in here in a hurry

Room Tip: First floor rooms with a terrace

I am looking forward to returning this year to the Palace Hotel, Gstaad. I have been a guest at this fabulous hotel for the past 15 years, and it is truly a six star hotel. Each year I return I am greeted by the entire staff and have the feeling that I am returning home after a long journey. The location is superb, the rooms are fabulous, views unsurpassable. The staff at the Palace pay attention to every detail, and from year to year have remembered everything about my stay. The food is always fresh and tasty. I was fortunate enough to do a "kitchen tour" a number of times, and have always been so impressed by how modern and up to date everything is. I can't wait to get back!

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent, but I prefer the ones with mountain views!

Gstaad Palace isn't just a place to stay it is completely experience from the inside out.
From the moment you step in the warmest welcome from the the staff who await for you like a long last family member , you get a feeling things are going to be pretty good. In fact it was one of the best hotel were we have been so far . From the housekeeping to the sommelier the service is incredible . Lunch and dinner never failed to surprise us and all the attention to details was amazing .

We definitely be back

I am sure that, like us, you are considering the "other" Palace hotel in the land of chocolates and cuckoo clocks = the Palace Hotel in St Moritz. So how do both compare?

a) service: Gstaad Palace is friendly & attentive.. St Moritz Palace is cold & arrogant

b) decor: Gstaad P is full of open fireplaces & warmth.. St Moritz P has zero fireplaces & feels like a large sanitarium

c) rooms: Gstaad P has beautifully renovated suites.. St Moritz P is an icon of the 70s with dated rooms, furniture, interiors

d) food: Gstaad P has a plethora of lovely restaurants.. St Moritz P will have you paying crazy money for basic food

e) entertainment: Gstaad P has a fun, young night club.. St Moritz P has a night club that will remind you of the 80s.. fine if you are into that kinda thing!

So, all in all, forget the Palace Hotel in St Moritz (in fact, maybe forget St Moritz altogether as it's a concrete jungle with the lake as its' only redeeming characteristic!).. it's not worth the crazy prices. Go to the Palace Hotel in Gstaad where you will have a lovely stay with lovely people!

Room Tip: Pay up for one of the suites with a romantic view of the valley.. best enjoyed from your private ter...
