“A pleasant day out”
Reviewed 31 August 2014

Gondola ride needs a unique ticket if travelling on a multiday pass. Worth it, though - views brilliant - and lunch was good.

“Great afternoon adventure”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

Take the cable car to Pfingstegg and hike through the alps! We hiked for about 1.5 hours and then took the bus back to Grindelwald. Great way to spend an afternoon!

“Great hikes from here”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

We took the Gondola (disguised as an alpine chalet!) upto the viewing point at Pfingstegg and then did the mountain footpath hike to the upper glacier and Baregg restaurant. The views are just amazing along the whole route but particularly of the foot of the upper glacier. Rides on the toboggan ride at the top of the gondola provided a fun end to a great day.

“Lovely views”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

A short cable car rides take you to pfingstegg which has great views of grindelwald below. There are a number of hiking trails of fairly moderate difficulty that any family could enjoy with gorgeous lookouts the whole way round. I originally wanted to go on one of the other cable cars but given the overcast conditions this one looked the best bet. The hiking trails are all one way which means you must go back the way you came if you wish to go back down via the cable car. Would have been nice if their were trails that went full circle to allow for new scenery but all in all I would recommend! Cost 18 francs return on the cable car from grindelwald or 15 with half price pass.

“Short cable car ride with views of the valley and glacier.”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

Unlike the First and Mannlichen rides, the views from Pfingstegg are into the Grindelwald valley and not into the famous Bernese Oberland mountains, but they are still wonderful views. It's a short ride - about 5 minutes - and relatively inexpensive (18 CHF a person round trip before any discounts).

We hiked from the upper cable car station to the Baregg mountain restaurant, from which one can enjoy a wonderful unobstructed view of the glacier. It's a rather steep walk on the way up - it took us about and hour and a half with many stops for photos, but the view from Baregg is worth it (we saw a snow avalanche along the way). The hike back down is of course easier and quicker. Make sure to have comfortable walking/hiking shoes, enough water and sunscreen and hat.
