really nice hike where you go up with an old train, walk along a ridge with view over Brienzersee and once you are on the top of Faulhorn you have a good view

I discussed this hotel in my review of the First ski lift. However, a couple of items: the food is very good (probably made exponentially better by the unparalleled view from your outside table), but BRING CASH, as they do not accept any kind of plastic.

Also, when you are done, go behind the hotel and enjoy the view on the back side - almost a straight drop down, but simply incredible. They have lookout points that are well-secure, if that makes you (like me) nervous.

We hiked to Faulhorn from Schynige Platte,. A beautiful day hike and a must to make the stay at Faulhorn complete. We made reservations 6 months in advance and got the last room. The weather was misty and cloudy all day so when we arrived we could not see a thing a round us! We were greeted and taken to our cozy room on the second floor. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent under candlelight and good wine. Hot water bottles were provided to put into our beds to keep us warm! In the morning we woke up and could not believe the view we had of the Switz Alps!! It was incredible. Breakfast was typical cheese, meats, jellies and bread. The coffee was excellent. We got to see the helicopter deliver the weekly supplies. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It is a rather steep climb to the hotel but well worth the effort.

If you want to stretch yourself walking in the beautiful mountains of Switzerland - take the moderate walk from Axalp ( Brienz ) to the Faulhorn - 6 to 7 hour walk with an overnight stay in the oldest hotel in the World. The Faulhorn has private rooms (or) try the dormitory and share with a dozen or so other walkers. Breakfast is included and it's an experience of a lifetime. There are many alternative walks back down with excellent train links to get you back
to your destination. Fantastic ( but tired )
