“Exceptional care and concern for guests”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2012

We chose the hotel because of the photos of their facilities. Our experience once there was that the photos do not record the quality of friendly care in every detail. All of the facilities were accurately portrayed and were found to be spotless. The moment we entered the hotel we were greeted by a friendly concierge who put us at our ease. The dining room staff were exceptionally attentive. 5 courses could be the description of killing with kindness. One evening it appeared that we had a choice of more than 4 desserts, as well as a cheese board! We and the other guests were made to feel at home by a humorous individual who turned out to be the owner of the hotel. This may all seem too be good to be true. In our many years of travel we have rarely experienced such exceptional care over the smallest details. This was hospitality at its finest.

On our arrival at the Schoenegg Hotel we were warmly greeted by the reception staff, and from then on, the attentiveness for our comfort and well-being was exceptional from all the hotel staff. Nothing was too much trouble, and their friendly welcome was much appreciated. The owner of the hotel was very helpful, and his recommendations on the places to go to were spot on. We had a room on the top floor which was great, with a fantastic view over the valley and the Eiger, really amazing! The food was very good and plenty of it, and breakfast on the terrace was lovely, especially on warm sunny mornings. We would recommend this hotel to anyone, surely one of the best we've stayed in. Grindelwald is a lovely location with lots to do, go if you can!

Room Tip: We had the fourth floor room which was excellent, quiet with a fantastic view

My husband and I stayed there during our trip to Switzerland. The hotel is quite expensive like most places in Switzerland but the view from our balcony made it worth it! The view was stunning and we were lucky with the weather so we could see the mountains in all their beauty.
Breakfast was good, too, with big variety of breads and cold meats, there were also eggs (scrambled or boiled) and bacon for those in favor of hot breakfast.
The bed was a bit hard and we got two joined single beds instead of one queen or king but being in Europe for some time we got used to the fact that hotels in Europe are not as comfortable as in the US or Asia, it's just a different hospitality and emphasis is put rather on food that comfort of hotel rooms. Room was a bit small (and much too small for those used to the US sizes!!!) but comfortable.
We got a nice goodbye from the owner of the hotel - he gave us some herbal organic tea collected from different flowers and said he was looking forward to seeing us again the the near future.
Location of the hotel is very good, too - close to restaurants and train station. I would recommend it to anyone who does not mind paying a bit more. Those who are looking for some value for money - I would recommend booking somewhere else (much earlier as cheaper places are booked quite fast).
Would I go there again? If it was a romantic getaway for a few days- definitely yes!!
If you want to do heavy exploring and hiking and be there for a week or so - I would recommend going elsewhere if you don;t want to see a big surprise on your credit card..

I booked the Parkhotel Schoenegg as a last minute ski holiday for myself and two daughters aged 15 & 11. How fortunate to have stumbled upon such a lovely hotel! The welcome was warm and friendly - even our dog was given dog biscuits by the friendly girls at reception! The modern room was clean, warm and well insulated with plenty of storage space and a proper third single bed (not sofabed or rollaway) was in place as the extra bed. It is clear that this family run hotel (now third generation) is lovingly looked after and the staff are all extremely friendly, courteous and helpful.

The first night at dinner I started to tell the Maitre d' about my daughter's food allergies (I had e mailed reception in advance) and he immediately told me that he had checked already with the chef and told me what she could and could not eat. Every waiter or waitress had been briefed and each evening without being asked they would suggest what she could eat and offer an alternative if she could not.

The pool is wonderful. An unusual contemporary design of steel with enormous floor to ceiling windows, the pool ensures that you feel that you are swimming in the heart of the Alps as each window has fabulous views of snow capped mountains surrounding you. The First cablecar is right next door to the hotel (where some skiing takes places) and the other area, Kleine Scheidegg is served by the train with the train station being about a 10 minute walk or 2-3 minutes by the ski bus which stops next to the hotel.

Mr Stettler, the owner, appears at breakfast doing the rounds of the tables, checking his guests are happy and offering any advice or helpful hints that might make your holiday even better. Once again, in the evening he is there politely welcoming you for your dinner.

From the owner, to the receptionists, waiting staff and even the man who so tirelessly cleared snow and salted the driveway up to the hotel, from dawn to dusk, everyone was polite and friendly with a welcoming smile.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to have a relaxing, quiet break. Most guests relax in the bar after dinner to read, go on their computer or play a card game before retiring to bed, ensuring that everyone in the hotel gets a good night's sleep. Not the place if you want to party every nîght. Everyone seems to want the same thing from this place: peace, quiet, good sport, good food, and excellent service. We hope to return.

From the welcome at the station when I arrived to the personal farewell from the owner when I left, the staff at the Schoenegg really looked after me on my first solo walking holiday. Good advice on walks and the local weather, and a friendly welcome at all times, lovely clean rooms and top quality food, in a wonderful setting. I couldn't have asked for more.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room with a balcony facing the Eiger

My wife, I and two friends spent 2 weeks at this unique hotel. It more than delivered on its claim to be a 3 star hotel with 4 star service. Its a third generation family hotel where the staff and guests seem part of the family. The head chef, head waiter and head porter have averaged 20 years service each and for them to want to stay and the owners to be able to keep them demonstrates how unusual this hotel is. Rooms are spacious and immacuately kept, The food is varied and of consistently high standard, there is a large modern swimming pool, most of the staff are multilingual, service has been turned into an art form, views and location are near perfect, and attention to tiny details makes the difference between very good and excellent.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms are worth the little bit extra

My husband, some friends and I had the pleasure of staying at the Parkhotel for a wedding in Grindelwald. It was by far our favorite place we stayed on our two week journey through Europe.

The facilities are most impressive: hot tub, wonderful pool, saunas. Room was comfy and bright, and the bathroom was very nice and spacious. The breakfast was delicious.

The location is perfect, situated right in the middle of town. A short walk to anything you need to go to, including hiking up the mountain, taking the gondola up, or going to restaurants right downtown (many are on the same block as hotel).

The view is absolutely STUNNING. It's what sold me on the hotel, and in person it is even more spectacular than you can imagine!

The owner was the friendliest, and he has the sweetest dog that kept us entertained while sipping drinks on the patio. Made us feel right at home.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat if I ever have the chance (and funds) to make it back to Grindelwald! I will never forget the beauty of this magical little place.
