4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2011

Very close to the train station and across the road from the bus station. Perfect location for access to Kleine Scheidegg.

Very comfortable spacious room with two chairs provided - a small point, maybe, but so many hotels only provide one chair in a double room! Superb view of the mountains.

The only down side was that the room was very warm. Overnight, even with the radiator off, it was not a comfortable temperature. We slept the second night with the window open but then you get the noise from the street and the bus station. The pillows are also very soft but more are available from reception, though we didn't know this until we made a comment on checking out.

Good shower, but sachets of shampoo/shower gel not quite what you might expect from a 4 star hotel.

We enjoyed a very good meal in the hotel restaurant.

Ski room with heated boot rack. On our last day we wanted to return to the mountains and could still use the ski room and our luggage was stored for us until we returned. We could also have used the Wellness Centre to freshen up if we'd wanted.

The first thing you notice about the Hotel Kreuz & Post is its fabulous location. Located at the center of town across from the rail station guests can quickly access this hotel which is a real bonus after a long journey up to the mountains. The hotel is also across the street from the ski buses thus anyone choosing this hotel will have quick access to the slopes via the ski bus or train. No hotel in Grindewald has a better location. As other reviews of this hotel have suggested the staff is both friendly and helpful. Service was absolutely first class and a real tribute to Swiss hospitality. Beyond its great location and service the other impressive offering from this hotel is the quality of the food. As part of our package we had a half board meal plan which included breakfast and dinner. Simply put the food was superb every day. The hotel also brings in some local entertainment which is also adds to the unique atmosphere of being in the Swiss Alps. The hotel and dinning romm are active which suggest its good reputation is well known. The hotel had an interesting mix of guests from Europe, Asia and North America. Rooms with a view of the Eiger are worth the extra cost and highly reccomended. My room (401) was modern albeit somewhat compact but given the fabulous view the slighly smaller size was no problem at all. Great location, food and service make this hotel tough to beat.

Location: In the very center of Grindelwald, the hotel is directly across the street from Grindelwald station, making it an ideal base to explore the Jungfrau region. You can also take the quick trip down to Interlaken for more shopping and dining options.

Reception/Service: We were actually eating at the very good restaurant next door for lunch and decided to stay for the night it the price worked out. The staff was willing to show us a room and we were happy enough to take it. Throughout our stay, they were friendly and helpful. Note that the lobby is quite cramped so when a whole tour group arrived later in the evening, the entire space was taken up by their luggage.

Rooms: Our room was on the 6th floor (high floor). The decoration isn't the newest but it's still well maintained and very clean. The room was pretty quiet throughout.

Internet: At a charge although the staff did offer me a "discount." Many Swiss hotels at this price range of similar setup offer free internet so this is a negative aspect.

Parking: Free parking but it's up a small hill behind the hotel about a 2-minute walk.

Breakfast: Free breakfast included an choices were decent.

Overall/Value: The cost of the room was SFr. 190 which was fair overall for this time of the year. However, the hotel could be updated a bit, and the lack of free internet knocks down its overall score. This hotel serves tour groups so there might be loads of people at times cramming into the only elevator and filling the lobby.

Hotel's location was wonderful if you are training to Grindelwald. It's only about 25m away from the train station. It's also central to the shops and restaurants.

The staff were very nice and accommodating. They spoke perfect english and were able to point us in the right direction.

The facilities themselves are a bit dated. Typical european quality, not a 4 star in American standards. The furnishings are 'Swiss' with lots of wood accents. The bonus was the rooms were really large, ours included a sitting area with two chairs, plus a balcony with two chairs. We also had a fabulous view towards the Eiger/Jungfrau. I'm not sure if thats normally an upgrade. The spa area was interesting; a very nice sauna and cold showers but the steam room and whirlpool were older and not very nice.

One thing to note more about Grindelwald; The offseason is a great time to visit if you want to spare the crowds. Just be aware that not all the hotels are open (this one was!) and that also a lot of restaurants are closed (this hotel's was open and delicious). I wouldn't choose to come back again in November because i'd rather be able to hike or ski, but if you just want to see the mountains its a great time.

My husband and I were here for 2 nights on a recent hiking trip. We found the staff VERY friendly and helpful with hiking trail suggestions, train schedules, etc. The room was a bit tired, but clean. And the bathroom looked as though it was recently updated. Beds were comfortable - and the restaurant was very good. Overall - very happy with the hotel. And the hiking around Grindelwald was some of the best!

Switzerland is one of 10 countries I've visited since I begin international traveling. I visited Switzerland in 2009 on a group hiking tour. Of last year's group, three of us decided to return on our own using our previous tour leader's projected 2010 trips . One of the ladies I traveled with picked up the ball and planned the two week trip and selected hotels based on each other's experience and other recommendations. We started in Zurich, and onto Interlaken and Grindelwald before going back to Zurich for our last overnite before returning to the U.S. The Hotel Kreuz & Post (none of us had heard of or stayed ) was the ultimate in location from the bahnhoff (walkling distance). The package accommodations included breakfast & dinner, Spa availability, a modernized hotel yet retaining its character, view from terrace was spectacular, rooms were immaculate, service beyond what I have received in higher rated hotels, and the Staff was exceptionally friendly, warm and attentive to all of our needs. Specifically, for me, their care went beyond the expected. I came down with a flu/stomach virus of some kind that rendered me so sick I had to stay in my room for almost two days. The care and concern expressed by all including the owner of the hotel was compassionate and consistent until our day of departure. That concern cannot be measured in money, only in goodness of people. I highly suggest to others, particularly Americans to come to Switzerland, the friendliest people I have come across in my travels and in particular, to hike the beautiful Alps by using Grindelwald as your base.

excellent value for money. Great location. Jacuzzi helped unwind after a long hectic day. Breakfast served in the room for no extra cost. Rooms were spacious, got a balcony facing the mountains. Staff was very efficient and helpful.
