We had a fantastic stay at the Sunstar Hotel Grindelwald. Great hotel with excellent staff!
They have noted from the registration card that my birthday is during our stay and the manager sent me a nice card and some chocolates which was a very nice touch. Thank you! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. We were on half board basis and the dinner was superb every evening.

Fantastic hosts and staff. Visited in Feb 2010 on my own and found the hotel friendly, clean, great food and the spa facilities a bonus. Especially like the free mini bar replenished daily and its location directly opposite the First ski lift and with a ski bus stop directly outside the front door with direct buses to and from the Mannlichen Gondola and station. As a guest you get a 30% discount off the hire cost from Intersport shop in the hotel. So this Xmas went back with my partner and mother. We went skiing and my mother was booked into the spa for 2 days of pampering. She was happy and so were we, Christmas food and entertainment were excellent, we even got a Christmas gift from the hotel. Returned this last week, February half term with a good friend. Both had a great time. Each time I have had a room overlooking the road but well sound proofed and I have never been woken by traffic or people noise. We also took advantage of the back stage tour, the fondue by torchlight evening and cocktail making demo, all included. We stayed half board taking out the hassle of going out and finding good food, also cost effective considering each meal was 4 courses. (5 on Sunday). Had a fantastic time and after your second stay you get a 5% discount. Stay 5 nights and get a deal price, stay 7 and get free rail transport to the hotel from the Swiss border or airport. Great value and great service. Room very clean and bathrooms spotless. Slippers and robe provided in room. Pool has a steam room on the side. Spa and treatments at additional cost. Breakfast is fantastic. Hotel staff always obliging and helpful. Will collect and take you and your luggage to the rail station saving the 10 minute walk.

This hotel is very well located in the middle of town, has store to rent skying equipment, bus stop at the door, and 3 min walk to cable car.

We enjoyed our stay at the Sunstar in almost every aspect except the sleep quality. The beds were so hard that my hips were bruised the next morning from sleeping on my side. Other than that, everything else was great. We had a wonderful view from our room. The staff was friendly & helpful and the location was wonderful (downtown Grindelwald). It is directly across from the First Gondola, one of the main lifts on that part of the mountain. Only thing is, we did not like the skiing on this part of the mountain at all. There were many flat spots where we had to take off our skis/snowboard & walk. Also, there were so many people it was just a bit over-crowded. So if you want to ski this part of the mountain, the Sunstar is the perfect location. Otherwise, you may want to find something closer to another lift, like Mannlichen (much better skiing). But the bus also stops right in front of the hotel if you need to get to another lift as well via bus or train. Breakfast & dinner was included in our rate and the food was just alright. Out of 3 dinner nights, only 1 night did we really enjoy our entire meal. But that may just be because we're not used to their style of cooking. One thing the staff did that was great was they brought us up our dinner to our room (since my husband broke his ankle & couldn't walk). I would recommend this hotel to someone but precaution them about our experience. I think if we were to go back, we would probably try out a different place. For what we paid, we didn't feel like the price matched the value we got.

This was a lovely hotel, smart, stylish, comfortable. The public areas were spacious and smart. Food was excellent, varied, beautifully prepared and presented. The breakfast buffet was very extensive and dinner was imaginative and delicious. Wine at dinner was very expensive. Our room was large and comfortable, with a free mini-bar containing water, soft drinks and beer. The view from our bedroom window of the Eiger was dramatic and wonderful. The only slight disappointment with this hotel was staff service, particularly at reception, which was quite frankly a bit unhelpful and disinterested. Grindelwald was both a lovely destination in itself and also a great base for visiting other places. A trip up to First on the cable cars is a must!

My family have now chosen this hotel on two occasions. It is well managed by its friendly management team and is clearly receiving a large amount of investment from its current owners - who should be proud of the hotel.

The hotel does have high standards but is not in any way stuffy. The management are highly approachable should you have any issues. Great staff.

i stayed here for one week with my boyfriend and can definitely recommend it to everyone!
when arriving at the local train station we got a free shuttlebus to the hotel. although the staff at the reception did not know we were coming (must have been a problem at the booking) the check-in went quickly.
our room was awesome, we had a big bed, a free mini bar with coke, water, juice and beer and a great view over to the mountains and the village. the room service is superb too, we got free fruits and snacks upon our arrival and each night a guy came to ask whether we needed help with the bed.
the whole apartment was clean and comfortable, with a spacious wardrobe and a thingy to put on one's wet clothes from skiing/snowboarding/sledging. we also had a big balcony, however it was a tad too cold to stay outside.
the hotels facilitles are great, next to the entrance hall there is a swimming pool (indoors) with a sauna too. the breakfast/dinner area is huge, the buffet is humangous with all sorts of delicious things. one can get all different kinds of bread (most is home-made!), cereals, dry fruits, fresh fruit and vegetables, different sorts of cheese, meat, fish, english breakfast and croissants as well as juices, glacier water, all kinds of tea and coffee. the best thing is the panoramic view while eating, you sit next to big glass windows right in front of the "Eiger"!
which brings me to my last point, the great location of the hotel. the hotel is situated right in Grindelwald opposite the gondola of the "First", just a five minute walk from the train station and a minute to the busstop "Firstbahn" where you can take buses to all other gondolas. Behind the hotel is the Eiger, the region's most favourite beautiful summit. all famous sights are easy to access, if you go to Grindelwald you have to go to Jungfraujoch, Männlichen and Kleine Scheidegg! the pistes for skiing/snowboarding and tobogganing are huge and long, and although we were here in the main season it wasnt full or crowded at all (apart from saturday/sunday).

all in all, if you want to make the best of your journey to grindelwald and are able to pay the (terribly expensive) price, then you will have to go to Sunstar as its a place you shouldnt miss!
