After our first trip in 2009, we left hoping we could return one day. We were able to visit again in August 2013, and the hotel met or exceeded our expectations. The food is our favorite, dinners were outstanding, and even the items we were hesitant to try, were delicious. The half board is the way to go since food is expensive in Switzerland. Every morning, we would look forward to see the posted menu. The town had major construction down the street, but never heard it in the room or on the balcony. Easy walking distance to transportation, restaurants and expensive shopping, but we were there for scenery and sightseeing. The staff were always helpful and pleasant. The managers were very visible and approachable throughout the day and in the restaurants. Wish we could visit every year!

Room Tip: South facing rooms are preferred!

We stayed in September 2012

Good hotel but be prepared to pay a premium price, but then again, it seems that everything in Grindelwald and Interlaken is expensive. Very conveniently located in the town near the First gondola. We had a front facing room, and the outlook into the town was charming. We quite often sat on the balcony and enjoyed the vista with our drinks. It is not far from the railway station, but the hotel provides a courtesy van for arrival and departure. This was very good for us on leaving, as it had just started to rain. The free wifi worked well.

We stayed here on an timeshare exchange but there were considerable extra fees charged, including compulsory breakfast. (In fairness, these were itemised prior to booking, but still came to quite a large sum at the end of the stay). The room was serviced daily including a turndown service (and sometimes a chocolate or lolly left on the pillow - which was a nice touch), and the fridge is restocked with water, orange juice & beer. Although there is no specific charge for the minibar, there were extra charges for the daily service of CHF10 per person (plus hotel taxes of CHF3.20 per person) and the daily charge of CHF 24.00 per person for breakfast. This added an extra CHF520.00 to our weekly bill.

No tea or coffee making facility in the room and no iron – but there was a laundry service for an extra fee. The buffet breakfast was very good withaq wide selection of hot and cold foods and even included champagne on Sundays.

We had a light airy room and the beds were comfortable. On the whole it was a very pleasant stay.

With the best views in Switzerland, this is the ideal place to stay while hiking in the Berner Oberland area. You can literally walk out the door to the most wonderful hikes in all the world. The rooms are lovely and clean and very comfortable. Our room overlooked the garden and we enjoyed having our coffee on our little deck each morning.

Room Tip: It's best to take advantage of the amazing view and get a room on the back of the hotel. The fr...

Couldn't get much nicer views. The Sunstar was comfortable except for the very flat pillow (only 1 per bed). Carpets could use replacing and a general revamp, but everything was clean. Rooms and especially the bathrooms were spacious. The free minibar was a nice touch. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The indoor pool offered a great view of the mountains. The staff was polite and spoke English well, but not very helpful with figuring out how to get around.

I was glad that we chose to stay in Grindelwald over any other town in the area. It was the perfect mix of convenience and Swiss charm. Interlaken would have been more convenient but is too big, commercial and gritty in comparison. Murren & Gimmelwald & Lauterbrunnen were all very cute, but smaller, harder to get to and shut down early.

The discount with the Swiss Pass was one of the key selling points but I couldn't figure out how to get the discount. I had trouble getting email responses before the trip and had trouble upon checkout with getting the price I was expecting. The manager was going to refuse the price, but finally honored it when I presented them with the one email I received from the main office. They advise that it should be booked directly on their website & just write in the note section that you have the Swiss pass.

In a good location, near the First lift and less than 10minute walk to the station. A modern and very welcoming reception and lounge area. Good view of the Eiger from some of the bedrooms. Buffet breakfast and good choice and also the set dinner menu. The bedroom was a good size and all the usual facilities but, included free drinks in the mini bar. The only disappointment, no ironing facilities, clothes needing ironing had to go to the laundry, at a cost.

Location: Perfectly situated near the center of Grindlewald, views of the mountains and all you need nearby. Approx 20 minutes from Interlaken.
Facilities: Self service breakfast was very good, omelette chef etc. Great start to the day. Check in extremely friendly and efficient. I had a small dog as well, and they are very accomadating, even having a dog behind reception. Provided a tag to hang on the door when I left my little one alone in the room.
Room: Had a single room, perfectly spacious for one person. Wooden Swiss feeling, large bathroom, very comfortable sleep, flat screen TV and own balcony.

Conclusion; Good value friendly staff, and comfortable rooms with mountain views. Great Swiss hotel.

A lovely hotel, which is ideally located in Grindelwald. I would choose it simply for location (a minute away from first cable car) and for the stunning views from the rooms, lobby and dining room. Some nice outside space too. Breakfast is rich and staff are friendly. We found the five course dinner a bit dated, not the best food we had in Grindelwald just ok, there are better options close by, such as C & M.

Room Tip: Insist on a room facing the Eiger. The views are to die for.
