“A hotel to remember in beautiful Grindenwald”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

Ts was the friendliest hotel we stayed at our entire trip. The family run hotel went out oif their way to accommodate us. On our anniversary they decorated our dinner table with rose petals and flags. Their food was wonderful and they were glad to adjust their menu to fit our needs. Our room and dining room were lovely with beautiful views of the snow capped mountains and green hillsides. They helped us with bus and train schedules. Everything was close by and convenient for us to travel to towns nearby. Their hotel was full of beautiful antique furniture. We met many friendly patrons who said they come here every year and stay a couple weeks because it is so easy to visit the areas around and because of the friendly owners who make their guests feel like family.

Room Tip: We had two different rooms, both had balconies. One room was small with a gorgeous view of the snow c...

Just left the Gletschergarten yesterday after 3 perfect nights.
It started from Grindelwald station where we were met by Gary which is how he introduced himself to us Aussies.
Our room was also perfect with the most beautiful view and the most comfortable beds.
Gary was also kind enough to collect our bags from the station as we used fast baggage from Lucerne, so when we got back after strolling around lovely Grindelwald village our bags were in our room.
Gabriel was most welcoming and it was lovely talking to her, they made us very welcome. It felt like a home rather than a hotel.
Our only regret is we didn't stay longer.
Thank you for my cow present!!! I will treasure this forever.

We came only for a single night so that we could do some hiking. We greatly appreciated the warm welcome we received by the owners and the overall family atmosphere. We had a superior double room that was spacious, comfortable and had a lot of charm. The breakfasts were good, and the evening meal was excellent, with great service.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the side that overlooks the Eiger.

The hotel is family owned and the owners are very friendly and attentive. Like most Grindelwald hotels it is situated on the main road, however the Gletschergarten is just outside the busy section of the road, so it feels very quiet and peaceful. It is within a short walking distance to the First and Pfingstegg cable cars, and just 10 minutes walk from the Grindelwald train station. The rooms are fine - all have large balconies with views to the mountains - and very clean, but perhaps could use a bit of updating. Internet is free and very fast.
We've had our meals at the hotel - breakfast and dinner. The Breakfast buffet had a smaller selection than in other comparable Swiss hotels where we've stayed, and most of the fruit served were canned. Dinners were OK - four courses including selections from the salad bar and desert - but at 42 CHF a person perhaps a bit overpriced.

Just returned from our 6th trip to this magnificent area, and the Gletschergarten is far and away the loveliest and most accommodating of the many hotels we have stayed in in Switzerland. The rooms are immaculate and the views from the balconies and sky-lights are absolutely breathtaking. Just imagine sitting looking out on the Eiger and sipping delicious wines from the hotel bar! Or looking up through the skylight at the moon shining on the mountains! Then there are the dinners prepared by the house chef, a Frenchman who has been on staff for 33 years: filet béarnaise, grilled turkey, and we could go on an on. BUT the very best part is the family that runs the hotel. Gabriela and Gerhard, along with their handsome son Lars treat the guests just like family. They pick you up at the train station upon arrival and return you when you leave; loan you hiking sticks and attend to your wounds. I cried when we left and cannot wait to return next summer. Simply put, it does not get any better than this!

We spent 4 nights at the Hotel Gletschergarten and felt as though we were staying with relatives. This family-owned property provides cozy accommodations, excellent four-course meals, sight-seeing suggestions, and ticketing for area attractions (even providing a discount for many of them). The hotel faces Eiger Mtn, so the views are spectacular from the deck off each room as well as the front patio where we enjoyed drinks prior to dinner. The entire family is well-versed in local history, and their passion for providing excellent customer service will make you glad you chose to spend your vacation with them.

Room Tip: Corner locations are roomier, although we did not see a bad room (our group had 4 different rooms).
