A family run hotel now in the (I think) fourth generation. Our hosts exceded every reasonable expectation for service... going far out of their way to be helpful. Want to hike? They will put you on to some great hikes with good advice. I agree with another reviewer that the location is idea in that it is scenic, but away from the confusion of the town center. Of course if you want to get to the center you can use the bus pass to take the bus that stops right near the hotel. But why would you want to? The meals here are great. Don't miss the Grindelwald museum on the other side of the street in a building that used to be a church. The hotel itself is in classic style. It's not modern (although the facilities (bath etc.) are fine). It's more "old style".

It's impossible not to be impressed by the fabulous scenery in Grindelwald and thus you need a hotel to match that. Somewhere very Swiss, very comfortable, good value for money in this expensive country and friendly would fit the bill. That is exactly what this hotel is. I haven't ever stayed anywhere that so closely matched the ambience of the location and the values of the people. The hotel is ideally located. It is warm, friendly and welcoming. The rooms are very comfortable and the views from the balconies are fantastic. The breakfast and evening meal are well prepared and supper is great value. Finally, nothing and I mean nothing, is too much trouble for Gabriela and Gerhart. They are the most helpful and welcoming hosts. In the end this is a lovely hotel but the owners make it a very special experience

We stayed in the Gletschergarten hotel while touring Switzerland. The owners were very friendly and always focused on ensuring our stay was a pleasant one. We spent 4 nights in the Gletschergarten. The meals were very good and the staff were attentive to ever need. What a delightful hotel.

Room Tip: See if you can get a room on the corner of the hotel. They have the largest balcony.

We chose this hotel because of the good reviews on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. It was our Silver Wedding Anniversary and we wanted somewhere special but not too formal and Gletschergarten was perfect. From our late evening pick up at the station by the very courteous Matteus, to the end of our stay nothing was too much trouble for the owners Gabriela and Gerhard. They were very helpful in advising us about walks in the area, looking at webcams to check conditions on the higher mountain paths and helping us decide whether it was worth attempting certain hikes if the views were going to be obscured by cloud.
The room was lovely with a view of the Eiger from the spacious balcony. We ate in the hotel every night and really enjoyed the evening meals which were varied and well cooked, breakfasts were also delightful. There was a safe in the room and a TV with English channels. It is situated in the quieter part of the village and we felt that was a good thing away from the hustle and bustle of the centre. We stayed for four nights and our only regret was that we had not booked for a full week! There are many more expensive hotels in top tourist destinations that could learn a great deal from the couple who run Gletcschgarten.

Room Tip: Get one with a mountain view it was well worth it.

We spent two nights at the hotel with our three children. These were the best days of our amazing trip in Switzerland. The rooms are so nice, the view from the room's balcony is breathtaking. breakfast is excellent, the hotel and rooms are VERY clean. Finally, the hospitality is simply perfect. I hope to spend more time there soon!

Room Tip: The hotel is simply perfect

I was glad to be in the Gletschergarten because the friendliness, helpfulness and cheeriness of the owners and staff contrasted so much with the rest of the town. I was on holiday with my son and his family and felt completely relaxed and at ease in this wonderful hotel. Not so in the rest of the town. We frequently came across unhelpful and sometimes downright rude people in shops, restaurants and the train stations. Worst was the woman in a shop called No Limit. No Limit indeed. She yelled at us and made a very rude gesture. Still don't know why but the experience was very unpleasant. Only the marvellous Gletschergarten and the magnificent scenery saved the day. By the way, the breakfasts are great.

We stayed here for 6 nights and loved it. The family who runs the inn were lovely and super accommodating. The location was at the far end of town which I enjoyed. They include a free bus pass that we used regularly.I would highly recommend!
