“Best Hotel in The Alps”
Reviewed 1 January 2010

We visited this family run hotel on our 2 week honeymoon and were blown away by not only the view, but friendly staff, and fantastic fresh local food. The host at the inn helped us arrange everything from reservations to cable car tickets. They made good suggestions for hiking trails that took us away from crowds. Rooms are neat and clean and the beds are very comfortable. Maybe our favorite spot in the hotel is the private decks overlooking the alps and the quaint town. Spectacular views. Highly recommended.

The Hotel Gletschergarten was one of the best experiences I have ever had. It was made most pleasurable by the owner who gave us great advice for how to spend the 8 daylight hours we had in Grindelwald. She told us to take the gondola up to Mannlichen, walk over to Kleine Scheidegg and then take the train back down. This was a perfect suggestion for us and we loved every minute of it.

The hotel was excellent. Our room with a view was perfect. It was well-furnished and roomy enough. The breakfast was delicious. The owner gave us a coupon for dinner at the hotel which we did not use, but I suspect that the meal would have been very good and the price turned out to be excellent at CHF29 since restaurants in Grindelwald are very expensive.

I can't wait to return to Grindelwald and will definitely go back to the Hotel Gletschergarten.

We stayed here after glancing at a guidebook, with no other prior research. The hotel is on the far end of town from the main train station -- which is ideal, as it is in a quieter area near a pretty church and just a bit removed from the main tourist hubbub (which is very easily accessible by foot). Also, the proprietors will gladly shuttle you to and from the station. The place was absolutely lovely. The proprietors could not possibly have been nicer to us. They were so friendly and gave us great advice about hiking options based on our particular desires and grounded in their own recent hiking experience. Dinner was delicious, and we enjoyed sitting in the lounge areas as well. The room was spotless and we found the decor charming. Complaints about "dated" decor are silly -- the furnishings add charm to the ambiance and are fitting to the place. We did not stay at an old, chalet-style hotel in the Alps expecting or wanting HDTV and edgy postmodern design! We actually found the radio and other appliances in the room to be quite interesting. The owners' beautiful rose garden was full of blooms that supplied bud vases all over the hotel's main areas -- lovely. Our room had a spectacular view. I cannot remember ever stepping onto a hotel room balcony and having such a magnificent scene. Overall, it was a memorable stay and we would recommend the place to anyone.

This is a charmimg hotel in a great location with lovely views. The staff are extremely helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. The rooms are very clean and tidy, although a little bit dated but this all adds to the character. The evening meal was of a good standard for a hotel and not too expensive!

Grindelward is a great base for exploring this area. We would recommend the trip on the train to the Jungfraujoch, it was spectalcular ... definately a once in a lifetime experience.

My wife and I were lucky enough to spend four nights at the Gletschergarten during our recent one week visit to Switzerland.
We arrived in Grindelwald after a disappointing visit to Lucerne where I didn`t think the City offered very much to the visitor apart from, admittedly, a very beautiful lake. We travelled on the Goldenpass railway to Grindelwald which turned out to be a pretty non descript village but in a fantastic frame of mountains and meadows.
We were picked up at the station by Gerhard, with a smile and genuine welcome that he and his wife Gabriella maintaineded throughout our stay. The hotel was well located, our room overlooking the meadows was excellent and the the four course meals in the evening were first rate. But the really distinguishing feature of the hotel was the family`s atitude to service which was not forced but relaxed, warm and professional. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was done with good humour.

I`m not a great fan of mountain paths but I would be tempted back to Grindelwald just to have a break at the hotel.

Many possibilities for relaxation in the hotel. Nice big rooms with balkony. Lounge with open fireplace and a bar area. Good diners. We experienced exellent services, the rooms where clean and as we like it: Swiss. Grindelwald offers much interesting places to be and means to travel. A hiking paradise for the walker also for those who like a solid climb to make. We made our visit (7 days) in the summer.

This is a very nice family run type of hotel. You are greeted warmly and the people will try and help you in any way possible.

The hotel is slightly away from the main area of the city but within walking distance. This is good because it is quiter, yet you can walk to other restaurants and activities. The views are very nice and is is peaceful to on sit on the balcony and see the views.

We had dinner one night at the hotel and it was good. It really was not that much more expensive than other restaurants in town. It was raining the night we ate there and had decided just to stay in and dine at their restaurant.

Some of the furnishings are dated such as the TV and radio. This was not an issue as I was not in Gridelwald to watch TV. An internet station was available for a fee in a parlor type room. I drove to Grindelwald and the hotel did have a few spaces of free parking.

Nice hotel, gracious hosts, nice views and pretty convenient. Good place to stay.
