“Entirely adequate for a youth sports group”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2012

Staff were extremely helpful throughout the planning and the visit allowing us to fit the group into rooms with a degree of flexibility. As a hostel it worked extremely well, breakfast was sufficient and we took a group evening meal which was excellent quality and quantity and served efficiently. Location next to Grund station is a big plus.

Room Tip: Multiple rooms of up to 6 people but in top and bottom bunks.

Mountain hostel is a budget accommodation in lovely Grindelwald. 5-min walk from train station, from our 6-bed (3 bunker) room we can see snow-capped mountain. The only bummer is we only had sink inside the room as the shared bathroom is down the hall. Room is really basic, bed, closet, sink. Buffet continental breakfast was served, muesli, cornflakes, breads, milk, tea, coffee and juice. You'll find that these food will taste heavenly overlooking the river nearby the hostel. Receptionist were friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again when I return to Switzerland!

My husband and I stayed here for only one night, although we wished we had stayed longer. The location is a bit far from the city center, but you cannot complain of the beautiful hike down to the valley where the hostel is located.A free bus pass comes with the room which was probably the cleanest hostel we stayed in our entire four week trip. There is ample storage for packs, great breakfast, and amazing views.Would love to stay here again.

Great Value for money. Stayed in Feb 11 for a week. Exceptionally clean, breakfast very basic but nice. Took our own sleeping bags. Location couldnt have been better, short walk to one lift, short walk to the train, or a free bus ride to the town from right outside (with ski pass). When I say short walk I do mean short walk, bearing in mind how difficult it is to walk with ski boots on. Beautiful views.
Can ski to very nearby at the end of the day. Well equipped to hold your ski gear.

Cons: The room we stayed in had 3 bunk beds, 2 of these are side by side, essentially making two doubles. Not sure how comfortable I'd be sleeping that close to a stranger.

There were groups of school children running up and down the corridors for hours and no-one seemed to care, apparently the staff are used to this. Wasnt impressed after hitting the slopes early, all i wanted was a goods night sleep.

Theres a kettle in the lobby, but no cups, spoons etc. to be able to make a cup of tea, so go prepared. Also a microwave but no other cooking facilities.

Room Tip: No doors on locks but lockers available in rooms

Spent 4 nigths there. The rooms are small and cozy. The view outside the window was very beautiful. When we went, the clouds came down to our window in the night. And in the day, you could see the tiny little houses on the top.

The hostel is just besidea stream the sound of which keeps you away from every other sounds in your mind.

The breakfast was decent. I like cheese and there were at least five varieties. Unlimited!

The kitchen is very well equipped with all the utensils.

The hostel is at around 15 minutes by walk from Grindelwald station.

It was a very good stay. I am planning to return there soon.

Just back from a holiday in Switzerland - spent 4 nights in a hostel in Interlaken & 4 nights in the Mountain Hostel. This was a nice hostel. Breakfast was very good, excellent choices - cereals, bread, cheese, meat, yoghurts, juice, coffee/tea. It was about a 10-15 minute walk from Grindelwald, beside Grund train station & Mannlichen cable car, rooms were spotless. The only downside was that there was a group of about 20 children staying at the same time, aged about 8-10 & they took over the hostel every evening, running around & alot of noise from them up until 10pm & again every morning from about 7am onwards, they were running up and down the corridors & creating alot of general noise. They seemed to be part of an excursion trip with a few minders. I did hear people complain but to no avail. That aside, it was a nice hostel in general. But the reception was not always open - I think from 9-12 & again from 4-9. So if you arrived early to check-in - you had to wait until reception reopened at 4pm. It was a two minute walk from an outdoor swimming pool which was a great way to cool down when it got hot!

A cheap hostel in a brilliant location, with private rooms available at a far cheaper rate than most other hostels. The breakfast had quite a good variety, with more on offer than you would expect. The showers were very, very clean and the receptionist really helpful. Plus they had free WiFi!

The only two problems were - big groups of noisy schoolkids and that we turned up at around 2pm, soaking wet from the Eiger Trail but were told we had to come back at 4pm (although they did allow us to dump our wet clothes in the locker room).

Room Tip: Private rooms only cost 10CHF more
