Dear Belvedere guest from Israel.
Many thanks for having chosen our hotel for your stay in Grindelwald. Thank you also for the review, which is short and clear. My wife Silvia and I have been invited by regular hotels guests to a wedding of their daughter in Israel and we had a wonderful time. Please return, how about for Chanukah, which this year falls together with Christmas.
Yours sincerely

The pink slab building looks a bit incongruous amongst the cuckoo clock chalets in the valley, but that is about the only thing out of place. It is close to the railway station, but not so close to suffer any real noise. Seven minutes sees you in the town itself.
The rooms generally face north or south, the south ones looking at the north face of the Eiger and the Grindelwald valley. The view from the latter rooms is spectacular. The place is kept very clean, with lovely crisp bed linen and with a turn-down facility in the evening if you so wish. The beds are typically continental being generally firmer than UK ones, but not so bad you feel you are lying on a board. They also have a pillow menu that is worth trying. Tea and coffee-making facilities are now provided, which is a bonus.
The staff are lovely, most of them treating you like an old friend and really eager to make your stay as good as it could be. If there is anything you want, they go out of their way to try to help provide it.
Meals are really special. Breakfast is buffet style, but with eggs cooked to order if you wish. Otherwise it tends to be typical continental fare, croissants, various breads and pastries, with meats, cheeses and confitures. Dinner is generally a six-course menu, including a salad buffet half way through: most of the courses are sized so you feel you can try them all, but without coming away feeling bloated and overfull. For those who do have small appetites, you can opt for three courses out of the six and pay a little less. The quality of the food is really good, and the menus are quite varied. Once a week they have a meat buffet and on another night there is a dessert buffet - sheer bliss! If there is anything you don't want, the staff will endeavour to supply alternatives. Some tables in the restaurant are sited by windows on the Eiger side, and it is enchanting to eat a meal watching the sun go down over the valley. The quality of the dining room staff is generally very high indeed, and most are multi-lingual: it is fascinating to hear them slip from English into French, German or Swedish as they negotiate the tables.
The pool is spacious with the room nice and light. The area has an indoor freshwater jacuzzi but the outdoor heated salt water jacuzzi is so delicious and hedonistic: after a day's hiking in the hills those complaining muscles soon succumb to the turbulence and warmth. A cold shower is there for the brave ones, but other than an accidental douche, I never plucked up enough courage to stay under for long.
It is really relaxing just sitting on the room's balcony or the hotel's verandah sipping a beer or wine and taking in the scenery, knowing that there is little you need to worry about, except leaving.
The Jungfraubahn 6-day ticket is a good buy, despite being pricey, as the mountain trains are generally very expensive on a trip-by-trip basis. The ticket covers trains, cable cars and buses in the Jungfrau area [Lauterbrunnen, Interlaken, Grindelwald, Murren and Wengen mainly] With one of these you can come and go as you please, so hiking easy, as you can pop on a train if you feel so inclined.

We chose this hotel on the basis of the reports on trip advisor. Arriving at the hotel we were thinking can this hotel really live up to the reviews we had read. The answer - yes it does!!!

From start to finish we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Belvedere and are already planning to book again next year.

The food was very tasty and varied. When booking we were offered the choice of a three or a six course meal each night. We opted for three courses which was a good move as the servings were generous and we would never have done justice to six!

The hotel staff were friendly, helpful and always available when required.

After lovely days exploring the Jungfrau region we looked forward to our relaxing evenings in the hotel; using the pool, enjoying the view from our bedroom and from the dining room and, of course, to the evening meals.

Dear Belvedere guest from Great Britain.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are so glad, that you enjoyed your stay with us. We cannot get much better at the moment, but we have some building plans and would like to improve many of our facilities, also renovate the entire hotel. This will however not happen before 2014, and until then, the planning will continue. Also a building permit must be received, something that can take years in Switzerland, therefore 2014 will only be possible if everything will go well.
Hoping to have the great pleasure of welcoming you back before that, I remain with best regards.

This was our second stay at the Belvedere. The location is fantastic - great views of the mountains and very close to the railway station for ready access to all the superb walks in the area.
The best thing about the hotel is the food. As we had booked half board we ate in the restaurant each evening but this was no hardship. We were allocated a corner table in the window (the same as we had 3 years ago) and could watch the sunset on the mountains as we ate. The menu, available in english, changes daily. There are usually a couple of choices for each course, plus salad buffet and cheese course. On some evenings one course is replaced by a buffet. We were there for the Grindelwald evening and also the dessert buffet which was superb. My only criticism food wise is that given the quality of the dessert buffet the desserts on the other evenings could have been more interesting. The waitresses were very friendly and all spoke excellent English. We appreciated the guidance we were given in chosing Swiss wines.
The pool area is much appreciated after a day walking as was the opportunity to have a massage. The open air saltwater jacuzzi is worth a particular mention.
The room could do with some updating. We had an Eiger view junior suite which was a reasonable size. (Last time we had a standard Eiger room which was pretty small). Whilst the room was very clean, the carpets and furniture were showing their age as was the bathroom. I would expect a better range of toiletries in a 4star + hotel.
The walking in the area is fantastic and with the efficient Swiss public transport system very easy to plan long days out. I would be happy to visit the region again and would stay at the Belvedere again.

Room Tip: Eiger view rooms essential to really appreciate the location of the hotel. Rooms on the other side o...

Dear Belvedere guest. Thank you very much for having returned to our hotel. We are glad to read, that you enjoyed your stay with us also this time. You mentioned a few critics, please allow me to give you some details. Our pastry chef, a lady, who was working for us during the last 10 years, has left us, for family reasons. The new pastry chef, who just started, does not yet have her long experience and still needs to learn.
The Belvedere hotel has received as first Swiss hotel the "Golden Award" of Travelife, which is a sustainability awar of the mayor European Travel Agents. One reason why we did get that award was, that we do not have all these small bottles in the bathroom, which then need to be thrown away, hardly used. We save tons of unnecessary garbbage like that. On the other hand, in the info brochure in each room it is written, that all these gadgets are available at the reception free of charge.
Since 5 years already, we are fighting to get a building permit to renovate the entire hotel and to build an addition. Despite the fact, that we did not get the permit yet, we keep redecorating rooms, knowing that all these investments are only for 3-4 years.
We will keep you updated with our "News" and hope, that we will soon be able to inform you, that the complete renovation is planned for spring 2014.
Yours sincerely

We stayed 1 night at Belvedere Hotel, and it has been a very good experience. The room was large and comfortable, and all the staff has been really friendly. The SPA is nice, with an external pool and a massage centre. The restaurant is excellent, we had dinner and breakfast and we can say everything was delicious. This hotel is an excellent place to relax on your weekend

Fifth time here, and consistently good. Lovely crisp clean linen, spotlessly clean rooms and pool area, food quality amongst the best [with the chef more than happy to provide alternatives if the menu is not to your liking]. Views over the soft slopes of Grindelwald, rising up to the Eiger and Monch are breath-taking. The staff are absolutely brilliant, taking time to chat to everyone, slipping from one language to another seamlessly, and ensuring all is well. Jessica, Ann-Lo, Sonya and Alina were great fun, Maria, Caroline and Katerine were professional and slick while the owners Urs and Sylvia made a fuss of us all. Some people suggest it is a little dear, but you certainly get great value for money. The outdoor saltwater jacuzzi was delicious after a day's hiking, easing muscles in a most enjoyable way.
The hotel is only minutes away from the town, but separate enough not to be part of the hurly-burly of it.
Tip - if your stay is long enough, make sure you have a Jungfraubahn 6-day ticket: it may seem expensive, but it gives you unlimited access to most of the trains, buses and cable cars that feed the tourist sites in the area, and is a boon to part-time hikers who want to only walk part of the way!

Dear Belvedere guest.
With us for the 5th time, that are great news. Thank you so much for your great loyalty and thank you also for the wonderful review. We should ask you to write our new hotel brochure, as you have a superb talent to write. May be you will write the next "Harry Potter" and become the next writing billionaire. We hope that you will come back for your 6th visit soon, how about in the winter time, as Grindelwald has some very attractive skiing areas, but also a winter hiking paradise and lots of tobbogan runs.
Wishing you all the best, we remain with best regards.

This was our first visit to Switzerland and to Grindelwald. Not only was this a superb location from which to visit the fantastic sites in the Jungfrau region, the Belevedere Hotel was a perfect place to stay. With views of the Eiger and other nearby mountains the scenery was spectacular-especially whilst sipping a cold beer on the hotel Terrace each evening. The staff are fiendly, knowledgeable and professional. The facilities are ideal and the six course evening meal was a treat every night. The Thursday night "dessert" bufffet was an unforgettable experience. So much so that we're booking a winter trip so that my wife can experience what can only be described as "food heaven" for a second time. Jack Jacovou.

Dear Belvedere guest. Thank you so much for writing that wonderful review and thank you also for having chosen our hotel for your stay in Grindelwald. We are so happy to hear, that you fully enjoyed your stay and that you intend to come back next winter. Yes, the winter time in Grindelwald is just as beautiful and there is a lot to do, equally for skiers and non-skiers. Lots of winter hiking trails and toboggan runs make the non skiers happy, this besides all the wonderful possible excursions.
And good news for you. Our team in the kitchen, our chefs, will all also be with us next winter, they will therefore continue producing the same kind of food, which you enjoyed so much.
The view from the terrace, or our lobby, will be the same, just looking at a white, instead of a green valley. Looking forward to welcoming you back soon, I remain with best regards.
