Central Hotel Wolter

This is an older hotel on the main street across from the bus lot. It gets a lot of tour bus groups. It’s also only about a block from the train station so it’s convenient with rolling your luggage (although you have to drag it up a flight of stairs to the check in desk). Our room was nice sized and we had a direct view of the Eiger from our balcony. We were concerned about the noise from the street and the bus park but our room was on the fourth floor and by about eleven most of the noise was gone. We had no problems sleeping.

The half board dinners were the best of the three star hotels where we stayed on this trip. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Although I would prefer to have been in a smaller and quieter hotel than the Wolter, I would recommend it if you think the positives offset the negatives as to how you value each item.

We just left the Central Hotel Wolter after spending a few days in Grindelwald. Our family of six was traveling through Europe and I needed to book at least 3 rooms. I was pleased with the options that this hotel offered. I was able to book 2 rooms with an adjoining bathroom for our 4 teenagers and an apartment in the chalet behind the hotel for my husband and I.
The front desk staff was very friendly and we were able to book our trip to the Jungfraujoch directly through them. The hotel is located close to the train station (easy walking distance) but you do not hear any noise as the trains are quite.
We did eat in the restaurant the first night and it was not our favorite. I don't know if it is normal for them to have so many flies at this time of the season, but they were everywhere so we chose to eat inside. To our dismay, we were swatting flies the whole time and that really made the meal very unenjoyable. Also, the Swiss style of services very laid back so getting someone to refill your drink, take your order, or get your bill is a little bit challenging. My advice is to slow down, enjoy the views and be patient! Our favorite place to eat was Onkel Tom's Hutte. They had amazing pizza! They are located further into tow past the First Flier station, on the right in a little wooden A-frame!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Eiger!

The customer service at central hotel wolter was top notch. They were very helpful and friendly. We stayed in one of the apartment rooms and it had a beautiful from the balcony. My only complaint is that the bed was very low to the ground like a camp bed and it didn't have a real mattress. My boyfriend and I both woke up at 6:30 miserable because we hadn't slept. My back is still really aching. If it hadn't been for the bed it would have been perfect! Great location in central Grindelwald.

As a family we have been going to this hotel for eight years now in the summer and in the winter. The hotel itself is very clean and the staff are superb. They clearly all enjoy their job and nothing is too much effort for them. The location is excellent with both bus and rail station minutes from the front door. There is also a car park at the rear if you travel by car. The terrace is just a great place to sit and unwind at the end of a day walking or skiing in this beautiful village.

Room Tip: If going as a family( or friends that dont mind sharing a bathroom) the interconnecting room offer g...

Great location. While I would not ordinarily recommend staying across the street from a parking lot, this was ideal as it is were all the ski busses stop. The entire skiing/hiking region is serviced by both bus and rail. This hotel had ideal access to both the train and bus transportation systems. As such there is a nice little gathering for apres ski at the hotel's exterior terrace to watch the sunset. Stunning scenery throughout the entire Jungfrau region.
Hotel was simple, clean and convenient. Half board meals were average, breakfast standard European fare.

Stayed 3 nights for ski weekend. Great location in centre, by ski-buses, train. shops, restaurants. Presumably a wonderful view from the front rooms when not misty. Standard Swiss mid-market hotel - i.e. clean, well fitted compact room, good breakfast, efficient staff, etc. Nice terrace to sit for coffee, ice-creams at front.

Room Tip: rooms at front have view but are noiser; rooms at back v. peaceful. Some bad reports of annexe rooms...

Well what can you say but thank you for a relaxing week at your hotel. The service and staff were impeccable, food on half board was plentiful and the room comfortable. Nothing was to much trouble even down to supplying extra pillows within 30 minutes of them being requested.

It was nice to see the owner of the hotel in evidence most nights ensuring that everything was right for us and other guests, you don't see that very often. Overall the ambience at this hotel was warm and welcoming, the views from the restaurant windows were to die for. The location is perfect, across the road and you're at the ski bus centre and 100 yds and your at the train station for the slopes which is important when you're a skier. Many thanks and we'd certainly visit again.

Room Tip: Rooms off the street are very quiet.
