Better late than never. We stayed here last winter. We had 2 rooms with an adjoining bathroom which was great for the children and us. Lovely view of the Eiger :-) Close to the train station.
Breakfast was very good, service friendly. We ate out but the food looked very good in the restaurant.

We did not stay here but had a wonderful meal at the restaurant with nice views. Delicious salad with fresh perch and classic rosti potatoes with sausage. Yum! Also had some nice local wine. Near train station.

Our first trip to Switzerland. It was marvellous. this hotel is a gem. Views of the Eiger from many rooms. Half board better value than a la carte. My wife is food sensitive for many dishes and the hotel willingly and gladly cooked the food she brought with her - not something often done with graciouseness.

Breakfasts generous with cooked or continental - or both.

Staff very friendly. Free WiFi. Maps provided for walking. Overwhelmingly helpful.

Room Tip: One with a view of the sun setting on the Eiger

I recently went back to this perfectly located hotel in Grindelwald (close to the main station, the bus station and the city centre) as it was a place we used to stay in as a family for a week or two 40 years ago and we all have very fond memories of it. And there was much to recognize! Especially the reception area which is still at the top of a steep flight of stairs, and the carpets, corridors and the rooms but the facilities (elevators, TV, internet connection etc) have now been modernized. I would only say watch out for all the uneven floors and steps (inside the rooms, to the balcony, in the corridors) - for elderly guests.. It's actually quite expensive as it comes but (everything is in Grindelwald thanks to the popularity of its location!) you pay for the location mostly and the staff are friendly, yes service is with a smile. You get a nice breakfast buffet in the morning and there is a good restaurant for meals. Upon arrival, we were given free tickets for the local bus and free tickets for the sports' centre which includes a great swimming pool, ice rink etc..We were well informed about what to do and even got a summary of the weather and the day's events posted on our door in the morning. This hotel is somehow linked with another one up the road: the Hotel Spinne which has a small and nice spa to use. So whether you wish to go in the summer or the winter (we've stayed here in both seasons) and you don't go with enormous expectations on the culinary side when you choose half board, you'll be happy. We always enjoy our stays here.

Room Tip: Rooms that look out onto the Eiger are lovely, with a balcony to sit on but they have the noise of t...

This is an older hotel on the main street across from the bus lot. It gets a lot of tour bus groups. It’s also only about a block from the train station so it’s convenient with rolling your luggage (although you have to drag it up a flight of stairs to the check in desk). Our room was nice sized and we had a direct view of the Eiger from our balcony. We were concerned about the noise from the street and the bus park but our room was on the fourth floor and by about eleven most of the noise was gone. We had no problems sleeping.

The half board dinners were the best of the three star hotels where we stayed on this trip. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Although I would prefer to have been in a smaller and quieter hotel than the Wolter, I would recommend it if you think the positives offset the negatives as to how you value each item.

We just left the Central Hotel Wolter after spending a few days in Grindelwald. Our family of six was traveling through Europe and I needed to book at least 3 rooms. I was pleased with the options that this hotel offered. I was able to book 2 rooms with an adjoining bathroom for our 4 teenagers and an apartment in the chalet behind the hotel for my husband and I.
The front desk staff was very friendly and we were able to book our trip to the Jungfraujoch directly through them. The hotel is located close to the train station (easy walking distance) but you do not hear any noise as the trains are quite.
We did eat in the restaurant the first night and it was not our favorite. I don't know if it is normal for them to have so many flies at this time of the season, but they were everywhere so we chose to eat inside. To our dismay, we were swatting flies the whole time and that really made the meal very unenjoyable. Also, the Swiss style of services very laid back so getting someone to refill your drink, take your order, or get your bill is a little bit challenging. My advice is to slow down, enjoy the views and be patient! Our favorite place to eat was Onkel Tom's Hutte. They had amazing pizza! They are located further into tow past the First Flier station, on the right in a little wooden A-frame!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Eiger!

The customer service at central hotel wolter was top notch. They were very helpful and friendly. We stayed in one of the apartment rooms and it had a beautiful from the balcony. My only complaint is that the bed was very low to the ground like a camp bed and it didn't have a real mattress. My boyfriend and I both woke up at 6:30 miserable because we hadn't slept. My back is still really aching. If it hadn't been for the bed it would have been perfect! Great location in central Grindelwald.
