The Good: Central Hotel Wolter is as the hotel's name infers, it is dead center in Grindelwald. You can't ask for a more convenient location, only 50 meters from the train station which is fantastic if you're skiing as we were. It has a heated terrace outside the restaurant on the ground level which was very nice to sit at after skiing for a drink of Gluhwein. We were also able to buy our ski tickets right at the hotel which is superb. I must also mention that the hotel internet was fantastic for my us(obviously they fixed the issue that we saw in previous reviews), especially my 13 year old. He had great internet connection in all parts of the hotel including the outside terrace. The waitresses demeanor was very nice, they all tried their best to get things done, but at times seemed overwhelmed. The stay includes free access to the sportscenter across the street which has a pool (bring your own towels), ice skating(skates for a fee), an indoor rope course above the ice skating rink, and a curling hall.
The Bad: We arrived the day after they opened for the winter season so it took their waitresses time to figure out how to do things. We had half-board and sometimes it was a very long wait between courses as the waitresses and cooks seemed a little disorganized. Management needs to work on training their staff to pay attention to detail such as serving ladies first, taking plates off the table when finished, etc. The dining room was a little crowded so having different serving times would have been useful. It is the little things that brings people back.
The Ugly: We rented a family room as we were 3 adults and 1 Child. We "assumed" it would be a bigger room. However, when we arrived, it seemed that both rooms were smaller than a larger double room. The staff was great in switching our room to 2 doubles but we could only get it for 4 days vice 7. So, we ended up staying in the family room for 3 nights. I would only rent the family room if you have 2 small kids. It is definately not for 3 or 4 adults since the bathroom is shared and very small. I would recommend the superior double rooms on the south side if you want a view of the Eiger and the ski slopes.
Summary: Yes, I would stay there again, but would ask for a superior double. Overall, it was a great experience and the hotel did try their best.
