“extremely nice hotel - some rooms are noisy in the a.m. when deliveries arrive!”
Reviewed 26 August 2009

We stayed at the Hotel Eiger for 4 nights. The rooms were extremely clean and nice. We had a nice view of the Eiger Mtn. The breakfast (included) was substantial and delicious. Our only complaint (which really can't be avoided) is that the rooms that face the Eiger and are above a small alleyway WILL BE NOISY in the mornings when deliveries are made! There is no getting around that! A funny story - in the lower portion of the hotel there is a sauna. The europeans took down a window treatment and would actually be lying in this room spread eagled. My husband and 17-yr old son would make any excuse to walk by this area - giggeling hysterically. Men, women, all sizes and ages....egads! I guess we Americans are prudes but I didn't need to see everyones tonsils before my morning coffee!

I've stayed at this hotel 5/6 times, it's marvellous. Lovely staff, excellent rooms, and fairly recently it's had a wellness/gym area added.

Best rooms are those at the front with a full view of the Eiger, but all are nice. The single rooms tend to be at towards the back with a side-on view of the Eiger, but they're well-appointed and comfortable. If booking a double/apartment you're more likely to get a room at the front I think.

Only about 5 minutes walk from the railway station, very nice bar/cafe downstairs.

Wouldn't consider staying anywhere else in Grindelwald, most highly recommended. Especially because the staff are so friendly and helpful and apparently have a remarkable memory for people they only see once every couple of years!

We flicked a coin and headed for Switzerland after Christmas. We drove south until we found snow, we found Grindelwald. The Eiger, amazingly managed to squeeze us in on spec for what was a truly superb experience. What makes this hotel simply outstanding is the quality of the staff. At every juncture they were friendly, helpful and a good laugh. We stay allover the place and like the previous reviewer we believe that the staff in this hotel are amongst the best in the business.
The hotel is quite deceptive as it looks like a concrete 70's block from the outside but inside it is a positive labyrinth of good things to do. The hotel has a bijou but stunning spa with 4 types of sauna, plunge pool, massage etc. Even the hairdresser was brililant. The hotel seems to have all sorts of bars. Now as a considerate smoker it was an absolute pleasure to go to a bar and smoke after the UK government destroyed pub culture. The main bar seemed to be one of the best places in town to socialise, drink and smoke we made so many friends and laughed our way to the early hours most nights. We ate at the hotel a couple of times. Tip top food and the breakfasts were leisurely and delicious. The manageress Mrs Heller always made a point of getting round every guest to say hello, it is old fashioned but very much appreciated... How many hotels still do this? Just stay here... You will love it.

  • Liked — The staff were amazing... And I liked smoking in the bar....
  • Disliked — Nothing all good

We have just returned from a week's ski-ing holiday (xmas week 2008) at the Eiger Hotel in Grindelwald and had a really enjoyable stay.
We booked the hotel at very short notice (largely based on the excellent reviews on trip advisor) on a half board basis and the fact that Grindelwald is a good location for non skiers (my wife doesn't ski).
We found the customer service 'exceptional' (and we don't use this word lightly), all the staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive - very keen to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. The hotel was spotlessly clean, well equipped and very comfortable. It was also really nice to find that there was a no smoking policy in our restaurant (for those on half board) and that there were other public areas where smoking was not permitted.
The food was of a very high standard, plentiful, well presented and varied, The gymnasium and 'wellness' area (spa) was modern, well equipped and a wonderful facility for the non skiers.
Our room was spacious, the beds were comfortable and of a good size.
We also met the owners of the hotel- Mr and Mrs HELLER on several occasions throughout the week. They enquired if everything was to our satisfaction (which it was) and if there was anything further they could do for us. We were not selected for any special reason, this 'attentiveness' extended to everyone staying in the hotel.
It was clear that the hotel was very well run and that all the staff were well trained, knowledgeable and fluent in english. Mr and Mrs HELLER must take great credit for the high standards of service provided at the Eiger Hotel. We read all the reports on trip advisor before departing and thought that they sounded 'too good to be true'. It is therefore really nice (and the is the first review we have ever written) to report that the reviews are accurate, the staff are friendly, cheerful and well trained and that this is an 'exceptional' hotel.
At our evening meals we enjoyed the company of a delightful Dutch family who were making their sixth visit to the Hotel Eiger in the last three years.
Big thanks to Mr and Mrs HELLER and their staff.

The main building of the hotel is a concrete modern building, which was a bit disappointing as it detracts from the Swiss village image. However the room was well appointed and the staff friendly and helpful.

Our room was a Junior suite on the top floor with a balcony. From the balcony you had a grand view of the North face of the Eiger that you felt you could reach out and touch.

The room was large and had a good bed. The bathroom was also large and modern with an exceptionally big bath that you could get lost in. The water from the shower was strong.

The hotel had a good breakfast and complimentary coffee and cake in the restaurant. The fitness room was good with plenty of equipment.

We had a good stay and would recommend the hotel.

Excellent Hotel, breakfast and staff. I checked in after 41 hour travel to a lovely warm clean room with offers of a free drink from the bar.
The staff were fantastic, nothing was a problem, in fact the girls on reception were far more helpful than the tourist information office a street away!

Loved the included coffee and cake each afternoon and the breakfasts were wonderful! A great place to stay.

My room was a single room, which was a little sparse in deocrations but I didn't go to Grindelwald to see the hotel room. The views from the balcony were amazing.
