This hotel was recommended to us by a family that had been there 30 years ago. We are a family of five, with three children and almost everywhere we looked we needed to rent two rooms. Just like our friend said, the Hotel Bellary had a family suite on the third level that suited us just fine. They gave us a guest card, which got us onto the bus which we easily took around town. The bus stop was one half block away. We had a great time in Grindenwald, doing the Rodelbahn, First Sail (zip lining) parasailing, and taking scooters down the Alps! The owner, Vrendi, was so very nice and remembered our friends who got married there 30 years ago. It is a more simple hotel which is why I wouldn't give it all 5 stars, but there was nothing we didn't like and for the value, I'd give it top ranks.

We stayed here in April of 2012 and retunred for 4 days in December. We had a room on the 3rd floor which was for 4 people, but stayed with 3. Hotel has basic accomodation, but it is spotless clean, has a very nice sitting and the breakfast with the view on the Eiger is priceless. if you consider the price ( about 150 CH for a double room) then this hotel cannot be beaten. the hotel is run by a family and thet will be happy to explain what and where to go.Another major advantage, the (free) skibus stops at 50 meter from the hotel. This is ideal for families with children who want to stay away from the expensive hotels downtown. When you stay here, ask your "Guestecarte" it gives you a discount on the sporting center where you can swiom or ice skate. Bye, Bart

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Eiger

We really enjoyed our stay here, but it's definitely not for people who don't like quirkiness. Our room was small but comfortable, with a magnificent view. (They had space, so they upgraded us.) The shared parlor is comfortable and full of old lodge oddities like board games and sheet music. Wi-Fi in the parlor only, but it's free and good. Breakfasts were good. The people were very kind, and very helpful. The location is excellent, far from the tourist vortex, and it was very nice taking long walks nearby.

Quirky? Well, there is an older Japanese man who works on a boat in the driveway. Our hall was dark (no windows) so you had to hit a switch, when they could have put in motion detectors. If you expect a Holiday Inn, this is not your place. But it was definitely our kind of place and we'd happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view -- you can ask. Also, if you're booked into a cheaper room, it wouldn't hurt to ask for an upgrade.

This hotel indeed is not a 3 or 4 stars. So one has to take that into account. However, the hotel has a special charm and one can be assured when you are in the "living" room in the evening after a day of sking one starts to enjoy the place much more. With a litlle bit of luck someone plays the piano. The Schild family tries to make your stay as comfortable as possible and will do anything they can you ask for. I have frequently used their home PC to check mails and similar. A lift to the train station with their small jeep at no charge is not what a lot hotels do. The rooms are tidy and clean but indeed basic. Breakfast is excellent and combined with the nice view priceless. If you love nice and "top of the bill" food in the evening you want to look for alternatives in town. Dinner is good but has no waauw factor. We often stayed in the family room (3rd floor) which sleeps 4 and then you get a very good deal I think. If you are keen on a modern hotel with all amenities from a to z then this is not the hotel for you. If you want a hotel (or pension) where you feel at home and takes care of your special needs (including children) then this hotel is a very good option. Also the skibus stops at the bottom of the hill ( = 50 meters away) so there is hardly any walking involved. People who complain of the fact it lies on a small hill (hey we're in Switserland .... !! ) forget the nice views you get over the Eiger. Also the walk on the Terrassenweg to town which runs by the hotel is very nice to do.
I would recommend this hotel for families with children or couples who want value for their money. The (free) parking lot just beside the hotel is very convenient and same is the ski storage rooms for boots & skis. Please note that on new Year's eve the "Bell Walkers" also visit this hotel as the Schild family is known very well. I was also told they have a small mountian chalet you could also visit - check with them upon arrival and when booking ask for a view on the Eiger or on the West. Rooms on the East are also Ok but have only a view on the village/hill and are less pricey.
