This is a very nice traveller-friendly hotel. The staff were very friendly, breakfast was nice and really this place has everything you need. My room was comfortable - a decent size by European standards, there's free WiFi and if you choose to watch TV there's a lot of channels available, including many UK channels in English. My room was on the lowest floor with a nice patio area looking out on the view, complete with a table and chairs and folding umbrella to give shade from the sun. I chose to fold mine down in the evening to better enjoy the wonderful view.

The hotel is well located. At first it feels a little far walking from the station because it's one of the last hotels, but Grindelwald is a small place and it is only a few minutes, which means it's only a few minutes back to the shops and centre of town. The bottom station of the Männlichenbahn gondola is an easy walk downhill of about ten minutes or so - admittedly I cheated on the way back and got the train back to the main Grindelwald station. The hotel does give you a guest card that will let you ride the local buses for free. There's also a self-serve laundromat a couple of buildings up from the hotel which is very convenient... easy to come back to the hotel while you wait.

What can I say more than what other visitors have already said...simply the best.Personal service from the day we arrived till we left when getting a lift to station was of the highest quality.Room quality beyond question and we were lucky enough to have a balcony with a view to die for.Breakfast was very good (Even Eggs being boiled??? in fancy sand????Very clever indeed) This hotel makes you feel that Heidi might be staying next door with all the cow bells and clean air.If you want a Hotel in beautiful Grindelwald ,I can recommend it 100%

Room Tip: Ask for balcony room facing Eiger

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst on a touring holiday of Europe. This hotel was originally our second choice, but after having to re-book our holiday due to a death in the family, our first choice was no longer available. We were pleased that unfortunate circumstances led us to this hotel, as our balcony had possibly one of the best views we've ever had. The Eiger is such an imposing, impressive mountain, and the swiss chalets dotted across the valley were beautiful. It was very hot and sunny whilst we were there, and it was wonderful to sit on the balcony at night and listen to the tinkling of the cow bells across the meadows. Low light pollution level also means that the stars look brighter than they do at home!

We were on the first floor level, and this meant going downstairs from reception. All the receptionists we encountered during our stay were very smiley and welcoming. Our room was large, light and airy due to the large doors and windows leading onto the balcony. The bathroom less large, but was the only bathroom were encountered during our holiday that contained a full-size bath. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and smelled fantastic - it was like being in a spa all the time!

Breakfast was delicious. Lots of varieties of cereal, meats and cheeses, which were labelled.

Whilst there we reserved the sauna for our own private use. This was easy to arrange with reception, who only require 30 minutes' notice to prepare it for you. We were able to pop down to it from our room in our robes, without having to go through the public areas of the hotel.

Free Internet access was provided, and we used it suss out train times etc, although reception also has lots of free leaflets regarding local activities.

Grindelwald is a lovely (if not slightly expensive) place and provides fantastically easy access to all the walks in the area. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the station, which is conveniently in the middle of the village. We took the train to Kleine Scheidegg and walked the Eiger trail, and then down to Alpiglen before catching the train back to Grindelwald. We are not experienced walkers, but I would recommend anyone who is fairly able-bodied to do this. The mountains made it a very 'atmospheric' walk and it was one of the highlights of our holiday.

We also visited Zermatt whilst in Switzerland (separate review), but it wasn't a patch on Grindelwald and the Hotel Cabana. We would return tomorrow if we could.

We selected this hotel based on filtering for < $300/night and the Trip Advisor rating and booked one day ahead. For the US traveler it is expensive but a good value considering where you are. At first I hesitated by the name because it didn't sound very Swiss. Seemed more fitting of a name for a hotel in Cabo San Lucas:) Don't let this throw you off. The views from your balcony of the Northface of the Eiger and lower meadows are out of a postcard. Unfortunately it was cloudy and raining during our stay but still very beautiful. The hotel is about 400 meters from the train station. We reserved a double room and since the hotel was full they let us stay in an upper apartment which was spacious with traditional European double bed, 1 1/2 bath, separate living room, kitchenette and double balcony. Greeting on arrival was welcoming and efficient. All staff could converse in English and not make you feel bad about it. I can see this would be ideal for ski season since you could eat in and save a lot on restaurants. The range of breakfast offerings was in the standard range for European 3-star. I liked that they labeled items that were Swiss or from the local Grindelwald area (mainly meats and cheeses). These seemed to be of high quality. They did not serve dinner at the hotel. Wifi access was free and one of the faster networks. It worked better from the lobby than our room. They also allowed more than one device at a time which we appreciated. Finally, staff were very helpful to assist guests select activities (hikes etc.) in the local area. Kind of limited when it is bad weather though. Hotel had access to a fitness club but we did not use it.

Room Tip: Some Balconies are on the side of the hotel. The best view would be a balcony on the back side which are most of the rooms. You may want to confirm this when you book.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to have four nights staying at the Hotel Cabana in Grindelwal. The views of the valley and the Eiger from our balcony were breath-taking. The staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived and continued to do so throughout our stay. The apartment was roomy, well equipped and functional. The hotel was conveniently located being an easy 3 or 4 minute walk from the centre of town and the train station. We wish we could have stayed longer.
