This is possibly one of the best ways to spend a day in Switzerland. For Sfr79 you travel from Grindelwald up to First by gondola. The views are stunning, especially from First. The restaurant at the top has loungers to relax on while you take in the breathtaking scenery.

The First Flyer is great fun, with the right level of adrenalin to make it accessible to all. If you're a base jumper you will find it dull, but if you're buzz level is more normal then you will enjoy this ride!

After the "flight" take the gondola down to Bort and use the "Trottibike" to travel the remaining 4.5km back to Grindelwald. This is a lot of fun, but it isn't a kid's scooter ride, it's definitely for adults. The scooters fly down the hill, the speed is only limited by your bravery with the brakes!

Highly recommended!

If you happen to be in the area the First Flyer is an exciting alternative to way to get down the mountain faster than you can ski it - 50 mph or 84 kmh fast.

There is a fee for this attraction but if you have a 7 day all area ski pass its free. There are some other discounts & ticket combinations available if you don't have a qualifying ski pass. More information is available from the tourist office. I had a ski pass but having taken the ride I would pay to ride just for the experience. Like most things in Switzerland it can be expensive to just turn up and pay.

You must complete a form before you ride. It's simple enough, name, address, etc plus your weight. Small/light wight childrens and adults overs 125kg are not permitted. You can ride with a small day pack/rucksack/handbag etc. Hats and other lose items must be tied on or put away.

Hand the completed form to the host and they will load you into the swing seat located behind a door. When everyone is ready the host will call 3,2,1 and push the button. The door swings open and the ride starts.

The ride takes you out over the mountain in a very comfortable swing seat arrangement. You whiz down the zip line in a relaxed but breath taking ride that lasts about 40 seconds. Enjoy the view and film or photograph your journey - use your camera strap! Don't use your mobile unless you have a strap.

Just remember to keep your feet up and be ready for the brakes as your swing arrives in the landing area. Stopping is more of a loud noise than anything but you don't want to hit the ground with your feet or drop anything as the swing slams into the arresting system.

The host at the base will release you from the bouncing swing seat and you are free to walk away with a big smile on your face.

Food, drink and facilities are all available close to the attraction. Opening times vary based on the time of the year and the weather conditions.

I admit to squealing all the way - enjoy.

For around 1 minute of going down a wire at speed it is expensive. It isn't exactly the high adrenaline ride that you expect.

This is one of the longest zip wires in Europe and is unique in this area. You sit in a seat harness (fully strapped in) and once ready you are released from the load platform to 'zip' down the mountain at speeds of up to 84 km/h (over 50 mph). The attraction takes you 800 metres along the wire as you descend about 200 metres in altitude (to the next cable car station). The maximum distance above the ground is about 45 metres. The views are stunning as you descend this exhilarating ride in just under one minute (you just sit there and enjoy it - no need to do anything). As you near the end the gradient of the wire ensures that you slow down before the spring system brings you to a complete halt at the end. Suitable for young and old there is both a minimum (35 kg I think) and maximum (125 kg I think) weight limit for riders. You can go down in groups of up to 4 (there are 4 parallel wires).
The nice thing about this attraction is that you build up speed from being stationary and so do not suffer any sudden jerks or drops as you set off - it really is very smooth and, providing you are not terrified of the gap beneath your feet, great fun. Also, unlike many other 'adrenaline' type rides you can't hurt yourself on this one! The staff were highly professional and very polite.
It costs 25 CHF per ride but you can buy a combination ticket (slightly cheaper I think) with the cable car ride from the cable car station in Grindelwald.
You can see videos of this ride on YouTube (type in "how to come down a mountain" for mine).
