“Outstanding view - Wonderful dinners”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

We have stayed at Hotel Caprice three times.. All the rooms have a view of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. The hotel's location is unsurpassed. Breakfasts and dinners are included (as is the case in most, if not all, Wengen hotels). The food has always been very good, although our last visit before this June (2014) was in 2008. This time the dinners were deserving of at least one Michelin star. The young chef, from Holland, is WONDERFUL. A plus is that you can eat his desserts with a clear conscience if you spend at least part of the day hiking in the gorgeous countryside.

Dear David

Thank you very much for your kind review!
But unfortunately I have to inform you, that we are the Hotel Caprice in Grindelwald and not the
Hotel Caprice in Wengen.

But anyway it would be a great honor for us, if we could welcome you once here in Grindelwald.

Yours sincerely
Hotel Caprice Grindelwald

Family owned Inn with friendly staff and warm welcome. Very nice, quiet and spacious rooms with great views on the mountains. Very good breakfast and dinner with local food and specialties. A good location to easily access the slopes, close to buses, train and gondola. The spa is great, very clean, with jaccuzzi, steam bath and sauna to enjoy after a good day of skiing. Plan at least 2 nights to enjoy more of this place!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony so you can enjoy the view even more from your room.

We were so happy to have chosen this place to stay on our one night in Grindelwald. It has an excellent location and view from the rooms. The host was able to help us make the most of our short time here and really went out of his way to see that we had everything we needed. They gave us good advice (about taking the 1st train of the day up to Jungfraujoch), priced out different ticket options to find the cheapest solution for us that matched what we wanted to do, and let us use the spa facilities even after we'd checked out so that we were refreshed for our onwards journey. Really, really great place!

Staff very friendly and willing to help with any need. Breakfast very good with plenty of choice. Bed and room very comfortable with wonderful view of the mountains. Didn't have the dinners on offer at a discount as I like to eat a la carte, but I noticed that a lot of the other guests did enjoy the evening offerings. Will probably try the hotel fare next time.

We returned again to this charming small wellness hotel; a must stay when, (not if) in Grindelwald. Of course, no one should miss this enchanting high valley surrounded by the most beautiful and awesome alpine peaks that are constantly in view from each room and all parts of the Caprice. The staff is attentive, helpful and extremely friendly. Meals can be as formal, or informal, as you like, The breakfast buffet is well presented with cold cuts, cheeses, fresh fruit and juices, eggs and an array of cereals, yogurt, breads and fresh jams. Dinner is served in multiple courses that allow for an evenings dining pleasure. The wine list is good and moderately priced and cold beer is always available. The hotel is located a short walk to the center of the village, close to bus, train and gondola transportation. Hopefully, we will be fortunate enough to return to the Caprice soon..

Room Tip: We like rooms 201 or 202, both have a patio that leads into the beautifully landscaped courtyard. Bo...

We bought a complete package incl breakfast , diner . The diner is one of the most hilarious sketch I never see.
First the food is as cheap as they can, the tap water is chargeable , the quantity is the one you will find in a London hospital.
The price is expensive for the service you receive . The wellness center is not even functioning when you don't ask . Maybe the electricity of the dampfbad is expansive .

I do talk about their sole interest to have you ordering a beer or anything they can charge .

Awful .

So I think we are pretty well qualified to provide an accurate review. To correct the last one, we were greeted at the station with our bags taken by Alex to the Hotel and they were taken to rooms. (Because I let him know when we would arrive) The ATM is about 100 yards from the hotel, The value at about £100 per day per person including breakfast and a multi-course dinner - very good, Eggs available every day for breakfast, Coffee available (as was the bar) when we asked, beds comfortable and who goes to Grindelwald to complain about a small hill walk to the hotel? So hopefully readers will put things into perspective. I notice the reviewer has no other history ... Mmmm

Ok We came back! our 4th time to Grindelwald which we love - we have stayed at 2 other somewhat bigger and more impersonal hotels in town and we so much prefer the chalet style of Caprice. The "just right " hospitality of Alex and Regula who are good fun, knowledgeable, helpful, interested and very hospitable helps make you feel you are guests in the genuine sense. Their staff polite, efficient and very good at making our stay easy. It was nice to see some developments since the last time we stayed. I had forgotten how immaculate the place is kept and how much attention to detail is paid in so many areas. We enjoyed another amazing New years Dinner and the traditional Swiss New Years Day dinner entertainment was great fun. this time we also enjoyed the cheese fondue supper in the cellar bar.

Apart from Skiing every day we came back early on a couple of days to do Alex's snow shoe walk and the Busalp long sledge trip - great fun.

The views from our rooms were just stunning - see a few of my pictures. Absolutely priceless!

Tips: If you are skiing get your skis from Buri with Caprice's 20% off their lower than Intersport prices
Ask for an extra pillow if you need it!, If you are going to First to Ski - get out early to avoid the queue. The 8;47 or 9;17 train up the mountain (just 100 yds from the hotel) worked well for us when we skii'd under The Eiger.

We've just looked through our photo's - so many smiles and some great times - wonderful memories. & yes we'll be back - must try the Summer experience

Room Tip: I asked for Eiger views this time, but just ask about the room you will be allocated !
