“Good value for Switzerland”
Reviewed 16 July 2009

The Hotel Toscana is in a great location, on a quiet pedestrian street, yet a short walk to the Interlaken West train station. It is clean and comfortable, with a reasonable breakfast buffet. It's a great $80 hotel room, but it costs $150. But, that's Switzerland. Nevertheless, this is probably the best value in Interlaken!

Also, note that there is a brand new Migros supermarket almost across the street from the railroad station, where you can buy food for much less than it costs to eat in local restaurants.

This hotel is a bit tired, but convenient for hikers or skiers who just need a place to retire to after a day in the mountains. Frankly, Interlaken is just an expensive tourist town with great views. Consider staying in a nearby town along the lakes or in the mountains
(Thun, Griswald, etc.) and take the efficient trains, hiking paths or roads to the mountains.

Two days before our stay at this hotel my daughter had a bicycle accident and was hospitalized. I called the hotel and asked if we could delay our check in by one day. The lady at the front desk told me that wouldn't be a problem, that she would cancel our reservation for the first night and we could arrive a day later than originally planned. On checkout, I was surprised to find that she was charging me for three rooms for the night we had cancelled, well over $500. She insisted that no one had called to cancel the reservation. I reminded her that I had indeed called but she refused to budge. I was very disappointed - no where else during our weeks in Europe were we treated so poorly. I strongly recommend against staying at this hotel.

We arrived at the Hotel and were warmly welcomed by Michael. This is a family run hotel, lots of charm. They have a very nice lobby with old antiques. They have internet you can use in the lobby or on your own computer in your room. (There is a charge for this).
We were a group of five. We had two of their rooms. Both were very comfortable and clean. The rate for the rooms was reasonable. One of the rooms had a big bathtub, ours had a shower. Nice option. Each had a little balcony you could walk out on and take in the view. It is just off the main street, it was quiet. The breakfast included was good. The hotel has its own restuarant and we had lunch there, the food was very, very good. Highly recommed the restuarant. The owners were very helpful, with lots of information about what to do and see in Interlaken. They are not always at the desk, but you ring the bell and they come to help you.
We booked this hotel based on other reviews in Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
This hotel is located very convienant and you can walk to almost anywhere you want to go.

Traveling through Switzerland via train, we stopped in Interlaken and walked to the Tourist Information for suggestions.
We were given several in our price range, but the Toscana seemed to fit our bill the best.
Located on a pedistrian only street, it is much quieter than those located on the main street.
We were immediatly impressed by the owners, who were freindly and very helpful in planning our tourist activities.
Location, room, lobby, information and breakfast (included) were among the best of our 25 day trip to Europe.
They also have a restaurant, which presented a good dinner and seemed to be busy for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I don't know why you would want to stay any place else in Interlaken.

My wife, 14 yr. old son, and I arrived in Interlaken without any hotel reservations. The local tourist office recommended a couple of locations, and we chose this one. It is not the Waldorf Astoria in New York, but we could not have been happier if it were. We ended up spending several nights here. The owners were genuinely friendly to us...joining us at their sidewalk cafe for a drink/coffee at the end of the evening, recommending other local restaurants to try (besides their own superb restaurant), sharing tales of times past and local legends, etc. The rooms were clean. The location, on a pedestrain-only side street was safe and relatively quiet. The hotel restaurant itself was worth the visit! It was just an overall good experience that we stumbled onto. My wife and I plan to return to Switzerland in 2010 as part of our vacation. This hotel may not be the most luxurious hotel in which we have ever stayed, but for all the right reasons, it was one of the best! We will definitely "book early" when we work out our next vacation itinerary.

  • Liked — If I had to pick one thing... the personal touch the owners gave. There were many, many other factors.
  • Disliked — Can think of nothing to criticize.
