“Incredible views, great service, best dining”
Reviewed 12 August 2012

Although high season is really in Winter, we visited in early August for the incredible (and sometimes exhausting!) hiking. The hotel (I'm not referring to the Eiger Guesthouse next door!) is situated immediately across from the tiny Murren terminus of the railway. Don't worry; it's a one car tiny train, and you will never be bothered by noise from the railway. You should certainly ask for a room with a view of the Eiger. All the staff are wonderful, friendly, and multi-lingual. The breakfast that is included is bounteous and varied---a buffet with perfectly scrambled eggs and bacon, all the Fleisch-centric options (and smoked salmon!) that a German-Swiss would love, fruit, warm and crumbly croissants with butter and superlative jams, and...it goes on. They will meet you at the train to carry your luggage--they will do anything. Swimming pool indoors, great outdoor terrace with A+ views for drinks or food any time. AND! By far the best dinners anywhere in Murren. Herbed rack of lamb cooked perfectly, superb reindeer, and my steak was also superb. Upstairs dining is too bright but has the superb views of the mountains. Downstairs is cozy and luxurious--I think it's the better choice. Whar a wonderful experience--we will certainly return!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Eiger, and perhaps a deck outside

This was our first stay at the hotel Eiger and we were delighted that we had chosen this hotel to stay in. The service at the hotel is exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff and Adrian and Susanna in particular were extremely attentive to our needs both before and during our stay. The view from the front facing rooms, the dining room and the pool area was simply breath taking. The entire hotel is spotlessly clean, the food is varied and of good quality and the pool was very welcome at the end of a busy day. Murren is a well placed location for either walking or for excursions with the train station directly opposite the hotel and cable cars at the other end of the vilage. With Murren being car free and the train not running after 8pm it is also a very quiet location. We had a fantastic holiday and would like to congratulate Adrian and Susanna for running one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in and thank them sincerely for making our stay at their hotel so pleasurable. We would strongly recommend staying at this hotel and would absolutely love to go back.

Room Tip: Pay the extra money to have a room with a view of the mountains.

This was our 4th stay in Hotel Eiger ! It was simply perfect... as usual. All you can ask for you will find in Hotel Eiger. We love the views, relaxing in the swimming pool area. The food is great, very good selection of wines. Beds are really comfortable. Very friendly and professional management and staff (not always easy to mix both, but here they manage perfectly). We will be back ! Thank you again !

My wife and I stayed here three nights in September 2011 for our 10th Anniversary trip. The hotel is in a perfect location directly across from the tram station. We were there early and they were more than happy to expedite our room prep and keep an eye on our things as we hiked around town (and down into the valley along the south side, which was a fun little jaunt).

The hotel is what we conceptualized in our mind about a quaint inn in the Swiss Alps. The rooms were great and we spent half of most nights taking night photos of the Eiger and the Monch. We would definitely stay there again and plan to when we go back for our 30th Anniversary.

Room Tip: Definitely get a room along the front of the hotel with a balcony. It is worth it. You can sit the...

We were a party of 10 (two families) who spend two nights at the Hotel Eiger as a part of a one week hiking tour through Switzerland. From the very beginning, the hotel bent over backwards in helping us plan our trip and making sure that our accommodations at the hotel met our needs. It is clear that the hotel is run by the owners-they clearly care about your stay and really want you to enjoy your time at the hotel. The breakfast and dinners were excellent and something everyone in our group looked forward to. There is really no reason to eat anywhere else. Our rooms were nicely appointed and had incredible views of the mountains. We all want to come back and spend more time at the hotel. This is a classic, Swiss family run hotel.

Mürren, the little place in the Swiss Alps, with its great mountain sights like the Schilthorn where one James Bond-movie was filmed, is my favourite place in the world. However, I'm sure this would not be the case if my good feelings about Mürren wouldn't be directly connected with the Hotel Eiger, an incomparably great place to stay. If you're interested in comfort, good food and nice people that is. The hotel owners, all members of the Stähli-van Allmen-family, are the best. They do not only care for you professionally, but as people and friends. This also applies to the hotel staff. One example: Every evening room service goes back to your room after already having cleaned in the morning and places a little chocolate heart on your cushion. So everybody gets a good night's sleep for which the calmness and greatness of the Swiss mountains also does a great deal. So if you really would like to see something unique, go to Mürren, see the Schilthorn and stay at the Eiger. Oh, something I didn't mention before, when you sit on your hotel balcony you will see Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau directly in front of you. So, after all, is there any place you would rather be during your holidays? No? Me neither.

We were given this hotel recommendation as a must from a friend, and we went here blindly. From the trip up the gondola, to the train and then the hotel with it's unbelievable views it was a magical place. You truly felt like you were somewhere special in the world-unlike anyplace we'd ever been. The hotel is family run, and is very charming. The rooms were comfortable, and were fine for a 2 night stay. The furniture was a little spartan, and the sitting area adjacent to our bedroom was not that comfortable to sit and have a drink or watch tv. It was a good place to keep our luggage out of the way! The balcony facing the mountains was absolutely awesome--whether it was sunny and an incredible view or cloudy, dark and ominous, giving you a magical feeling. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with suggestions as to what to do since we arrived at this hotel having no idea what we would find in this town. The breakfast was lovely and we had dinner there as well and it was excellent. Definitely a special place that will be highly recommended!

Room Tip: Definitely get a mountain view--one of the reasons you are there!
