Great hospitalisy in clean comforatable rooms. Good value in an expensive part of the world. Ema and her staff made you feel at home and the food was top notch!

We stayed at Hotel Eiger for 3 nights in August 2012 as part of a week hiking trip in the Lauterbrunnen valley in Switzerland. My boyfriend and I had the trip organized by a company that booked this hotel.

Transportation:

The hotel is across from the train station in Murren. We hiked to this hotel from another location and picked up our luggage at the train station (as they do luggage transfer). Murren is a lovely village and getting around the town was easy by foot. There are not a lot of restaurants outside of the hotel restaurants and a few tourist shops. There is 1 grocery store (Coop).

Room & Bathroom (photos included):

We stayed in room 337 which faces the mountain ranges of Eiger and Jungfrau. The room was spacious and had a shared balcony where you could enjoy the view of the mountain ranges. The décor of the room is slightly outdated but it was clean. The bed was comfortable and it does sit low to the ground as this was the case with all the hotels we stayed in on this trip. The bathroom toiletries included hair conditioner, which is often not included through our travels in Europe. The room had a big flat screen TV with many channels in different languages. There were a few channels in English but we didn’t spend anytime watching TV.

Service:

As part of the package stay we had the half board – a set menu for dinner where we could choose the main course from 3 options. There was always a vegetarian option. I do eat fish and they did have a fish option 1 night of the 3 we were there. My boyfriend and I are mixed on the food review. The first night the food was not good – both the meat and veggie option. Each of the 4 courses (except the salad) did not taste good. My vegetarian meal was awful that I couldn’t eat it. And even the dessert was not tasty. However, the second night was a bit better. I had salmon and it was very good as was the meat dish for my boyfriend. The 3rd night I asked if I could order ‘a la carte’ because the set menu did not have fish and the vegetarian option did not sound good to me. They did charge me the full price for doing so. We did arrive late for dinner just as the kitchen closes at 21:00 (9pm) and they did allow us to eat which was very nice of them. One night we were invited to have a free appertif (cocktail) before dinner which was really nice as the owners (still family owned) were there to greet the guests for the evening.

We did not use the pool or any other services. The customer service was very attentive. It is possibly even more attentive than service in the USA. It depends on your expectations and what you like. We prefer the waiter to be more distant so this for us was over the top and slightly intrusive in trying to enjoy our dinner (and why I gave service average). At one point the waiter stood next to me waiting for me to select the wine and it was weird to have a conversation with my boyfriend while he was standing there waiting.

The internet was free! This was a great plus point!

Overall, our stay was pleasant and the room fit our needs (with a great view). I would suggest not doing the half board. The a la carte option would be better.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the mountain ranges are breathtaking.

Hotel owners were helpful, polite and friendly. They even had a cocktail hour on Tuesday Afternoon for residents. View from my room was amazing. Be sure and get a room in the front of the hotel. It is a little noisy but worth it. No Air Conditioner so it was warm because we were there in July but standable. Truly wished I could have stayed another day or two at the Hotel Eiger. Food was good. The breakfast had crossiants to die for! We had to leave very early to catch a train and they were kind enough to open the resturant early just for us. Staff went beyond what was expected to make our stay lovely.

Although high season is really in Winter, we visited in early August for the incredible (and sometimes exhausting!) hiking. The hotel (I'm not referring to the Eiger Guesthouse next door!) is situated immediately across from the tiny Murren terminus of the railway. Don't worry; it's a one car tiny train, and you will never be bothered by noise from the railway. You should certainly ask for a room with a view of the Eiger. All the staff are wonderful, friendly, and multi-lingual. The breakfast that is included is bounteous and varied---a buffet with perfectly scrambled eggs and bacon, all the Fleisch-centric options (and smoked salmon!) that a German-Swiss would love, fruit, warm and crumbly croissants with butter and superlative jams, and...it goes on. They will meet you at the train to carry your luggage--they will do anything. Swimming pool indoors, great outdoor terrace with A+ views for drinks or food any time. AND! By far the best dinners anywhere in Murren. Herbed rack of lamb cooked perfectly, superb reindeer, and my steak was also superb. Upstairs dining is too bright but has the superb views of the mountains. Downstairs is cozy and luxurious--I think it's the better choice. Whar a wonderful experience--we will certainly return!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Eiger, and perhaps a deck outside

This was our first stay at the hotel Eiger and we were delighted that we had chosen this hotel to stay in. The service at the hotel is exemplary. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff and Adrian and Susanna in particular were extremely attentive to our needs both before and during our stay. The view from the front facing rooms, the dining room and the pool area was simply breath taking. The entire hotel is spotlessly clean, the food is varied and of good quality and the pool was very welcome at the end of a busy day. Murren is a well placed location for either walking or for excursions with the train station directly opposite the hotel and cable cars at the other end of the vilage. With Murren being car free and the train not running after 8pm it is also a very quiet location. We had a fantastic holiday and would like to congratulate Adrian and Susanna for running one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in and thank them sincerely for making our stay at their hotel so pleasurable. We would strongly recommend staying at this hotel and would absolutely love to go back.

Room Tip: Pay the extra money to have a room with a view of the mountains.

This was our 4th stay in Hotel Eiger ! It was simply perfect... as usual. All you can ask for you will find in Hotel Eiger. We love the views, relaxing in the swimming pool area. The food is great, very good selection of wines. Beds are really comfortable. Very friendly and professional management and staff (not always easy to mix both, but here they manage perfectly). We will be back ! Thank you again !

My wife and I stayed here three nights in September 2011 for our 10th Anniversary trip. The hotel is in a perfect location directly across from the tram station. We were there early and they were more than happy to expedite our room prep and keep an eye on our things as we hiked around town (and down into the valley along the south side, which was a fun little jaunt).

The hotel is what we conceptualized in our mind about a quaint inn in the Swiss Alps. The rooms were great and we spent half of most nights taking night photos of the Eiger and the Monch. We would definitely stay there again and plan to when we go back for our 30th Anniversary.

Room Tip: Definitely get a room along the front of the hotel with a balcony. It is worth it. You can sit the...
