My wife and I just returned home from a 2.5-week vacation through Central Europe, and while visiting the Swiss Alps, we stayed 5 nights at the Eiger Guesthouse in Murren. On their Facebook page, the Eiger Guesthouse writes that "Our guests come as guests and leave as friends..." and when I think back to our time there, that statement perfectly sums up our entire experience. Thank you Ema, Daniel, Natalie, and everyone else at the Eiger Guesthouse for your incredible hospitality and for the wonderful memories that we'll cherish for the rest of our lives!
Room: We booked a Standard Room with Mountain View, and we were very pleased with the accommodations we received. Our room was located on the 3rd (top) floor of the guesthouse, and we were pleasantly surprised to find out that we actually had a small balcony off to the side of our room that gave us beautiful views of the mountains all around. The room itself was very small, with a sloped ceiling over the bed, but this didn't bother us at all because we truly didn't spend much time in the room, and when we did, it had everything we needed! The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the small shower in the bathroom was always hot and had great water-pressure. I couldn't really ask for much else from a guesthouse. My only recommendation would be to offer a lighter-weight bedding option during the summer months because the down comforters provided got extremely hot at times.
Restaurant/Bar: In my opinion, the Eiger Guesthouse boasts the best restaurant and bar in Murren. The complimentary breakfast runs from 7:30-10am every morning and offers a nice selection of options to get your day off to a good start. I especially loved their coffee! Some of the best I had in Europe! In the evenings, the restaurant specializes in Italian fare and pizzas, but they also have a few delicious Swiss offerings as well, including rosti, raclette, and fondu. We ate here every night of our stay and sampled many different items from the menu, and we were never disappointed with our meals. As for the bar area, it's probably the most popular late-night hangout in Murren. We hung out there every night after dinner, watching the World Cup games on their projector screen TV, enjoying the company of the hotel staff, other guests, and locals who would stop by, and playing pool/foosball in the adjoining room.
Service: This is where the Eiger Guesthouse truly outshines the competition. Everyone at the hotel consistently went out of their way to ensure that our stay was the best it could possibly be. From working with us when our flight got cancelled and we had to miss the first night of our vacation, to letting us refrigerate some food that we purchased at the grocery store, to packing us a lunch-on-the-go when we had to get up early for a long hike, to accompanying us on the via ferrata, the people of the Eiger Guesthouse are the main reason we had such an amazing stay. We already miss you all, and we can't wait to return again on our next trip to Switzerland!
Thank you again for making our stay in Switzerland so memorable!
