My family recently stayed in Wengen at the Edelweiss. When booking directly with the hotel, I was given the choice of a big family room with no balcony or 2 connecting rooms with balcony. We took the 2 rooms and their much better views.
The property is a short but steep walk (like everything in Wengen) below the train station right next to the Baeren. The hotel is aging, but the rooms were very clean and comfortable.
The problem with our stay was noise. The property is indeed family friendly, and unfortunately a trampoline just outside the front door was in use until well after dark virtually EVERY minute of every day we were there. Creak, creak, scream, creak.... you get the picture. It tended to diminish the wonderful alpine solitude you go to Wengen to enjoy.
Another problem with noise came from the aging balcony/deck construction. You can plan on hearing every movement anyone makes above or below you on these wooden decks. Worse for us, were several couples travelling together who insisted on moving their plastic chairs every 30 seconds while out on the deck.
The proprietors are very nice and the breakfast was good but nothing special for Switzerland. There is also ping pong and foozball in a dark and dingy basement room adjacent to the obligatory Swiss bomb shelter room. Amusing, but I wouldn't call it friendly. Our 11 year old found it funny.
All in all, we had a good stay at the Edeweiss, but may well look elsewhere next time in Wengen.
