We loved our stay and having the owner greet us daily with a smile made us feel like we were at home and very comfortable. The food and service was fantastic and truly first class. I agree with other postings that the hotel needs a freshening up and was obvious when we first arrived but over the first few days, did not matter as we grew enchanted with our hosts. Staying at the Hotel Regina really gave me an understanding of what the "personal touch" means and how much it can sway your opinion. Most five star hotels excell at the guest experience and so does Mr. Mayer, the owner.
Well done and thank you

Room Tip: The jr suites are unique but get a high floor for an exquisite view of the mountains

We sayed at the hotel in February 2013 for a week. The saff were helpful and pleasant. our room was adequate warm but very small, but definitely not 4 star decor or furnishings. The set meals in the restaurant were very very restrictive with small portions. There was no salad or dessert buffet. Some of the dishes were very meagre-three prawns in a main course dish! Really? We did bring this to the hotels attention but the next time I had a prawn main course I still had three prawns. The service was good in the restaurant but the charge of 8 Swiss francs for the hotels bottled tap water is an absolute disgrace and rip off, and not made clear. It was like staying on the Titanic - the ship was going down but the staff were polite and the band kept playing. I would not choose this hotel again.

Room Tip: Ask for a large room with a balcony overlooking town

I cannot believe that this hotel classifies itself as a four star hotel, I agree that it should be rated two star. We stayed in a double room in which we were cold every single night even after the heater was supposedly fixed. Disgusting pink granny floral decor (everything from carpets to curtains) and ancient style bathroom with ugly yellow shower curtains (they need a serious lesson in interior design for charging such exorbitant prices). Yes, the view outside is magnificent but I felt sick coming into the room and bathroom. The stairwells and hallways also smell old and have faint small of cigarettes and just general aging.
The spa is a joke - it has a fitness center that resembles something from the Middle Ages (how dare they call this a 24 hour gym?) and a "spa" in which only massages are available. If you call yourself a beauty center hotel, surely you must offer more than just massages? And absolutely right on the sauna and steam room - they were disgusting and felt scary to even sit inside. This is NOT four star facilities whatsoever.
Now on the plus side: the reception staff are truly wonderful (except the grumpy one who works in the evenings, that one needs a lesson in client service). Super helpful in every way possible, really great. If only they can upgrade the hotel to even half the level of the receptionists, that would be an immense jump. They also have a nice idea to be able "borrow" the hotel dog for walks and proceeds go to cancer research - a great idea!
But if the hotel front desk staff and the dog are the only memorable parts of my stay, then one can see there is a serious problem with this hotel. I was very unhappy with the price I paid and I would never come back.
I would classify this hotel as not "old school charm" but "old school dump".

the cost of the hotel is like for the most luxurous 4* hotel , while actually what you get is equivaent to 2* hotel.
The SPA fassislities are very poor. a super mini wet sauna and broken chairs , with not even water to drink. , and the food slection is very poor. You would expect to have from a gourmet hotel to have a selctions of foods and buffets and some variations fromday to day , but here it is very boring.

Just back from a weeks skiing in Wengen. Conditions were great. Travelled with Inghams who are very organised. Perfect timings from airport to resort. Alison & Stefan very knowlegable. Hotel is very well located to train station and town centre. Walk up to hotel can be a little challenging if conditions are icy though! Hotel is of traditional style, which some may say is a little dated, Yes it is older in style and furnishings but it was very clean and tidy. Our room was a good size with a lovely view of the mountains. All you need at the end of a hard day skiing is somewhere that is clean, comfortable and tidy and this hotel ticks all the boxes. There is a gym but we didn't use it as too tired from skiing, but there were enough pieces of equipment to get you through. On the downside our bed was a little harder than what we are used to at home, but merely a minor gripe.

Food at the hotel is of good choice. Breakfast may not be to everyones taste, but there was plenty for us to choose from. Good selection of cereals, breads, jams, fruit, yoguhart and also hot items, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. There is a toaster but it takes "ages"!!! to do its job so if you want toast, plan ahead! Waiter service for coffee/tea also. As we were on half board we didn't eat again in the hotel until dinner time. The choice was either from the daily menu which was 4 courses and main course there was 2 choices either a meat dish or vegetarian option. If this didn't suit then you could choose from the al-a-carte and pay the difference if applicable.

There is a boot-room downstairs for you to store your skis etc at no extra cost.

All staff very friendly and helpful. As it is a family run hotel the owner is on hand to assist if you have any queries. He was always there to greet you with a friendly smile and sat with us for a few minutes to get the chat of our day.

Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Highly recommended hotel in an ideal setting for skiing and enjoying Wengen and the Swiss Alps. The hotel built in the 1890s is full of old world charm and elegance. Staff were warm and welcoming and provided excellent service. Our room overlooking the Jungfrau was large, warm and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were very sad to leave.

Good points included:
-warm and friendly service
-beautiful and cozy lobby with a crackling fire and digital baby grand piano
-delicious dinner menu served perfectly by the lovely staff.
-complimentary drinks on arrival
-complimentary nibbles before dinner and petit fours after dinner
-delicious breakfasts and dinners
-ski drying room
-proximity to gondola and train to access expansive ski area
-proximity to ski hire with overnight storage
-free fast internet in lobby

Remember on arrival at the railway station to phone hotel for access to a porter service.

My wife and I stayed here three times in 2005 and 2006. The skiing is out of this world. Can ski 8km from Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald. Tobogganing world class. The valley is the most beautiful in Europe. Rooms are old but very comfortable. Where else in the world can one wake up and see Silberhorn? Wonderful food for half board, enormous buffet breakfast, top class dinners. Am perplexed by some of the other reviews here. Not modern but brilliant. My only gripe was that internet access was far too expensive.
