“Perfect Location and Helpful staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2013

Two weeks ago, as my wife and I entered our balcony at the Wengener Hof , our expectations were exceeded by the awesome view of the deep green Lauterbruunen valley surrounded by mountains including the snow capped Breithorn. I took photos of this scene each day at different hours, catching the sun striking the mountains at various angles.

This hotel is located a few minutes walk from the main drag of Wengen where you can take the gondola up the mountain to the village of Manlicken , the departure point for a very scenic yet easy 1 hour walk to Kleine Scheideg, home of the north face of the Eiger.

The Wenger Hof sits on a hill surrounded by trees and bushes. Reclining beach chairs decorate the front yard. Nobody bothers you here.

Whenever we asked the front desk clerk for assistance, he or she was very helpful, providing ice, cork screw, or arranging free transportation down to the wengen train station.

The breakfast buffet was acceptable. Eggs, cheeses, pork and fruit. I applaud Switzerland's sausage and bacon. Compared to pork found in America, these breakfast treats taste good, (i.e. chemical free ).

I have no complaints about this hotel, and will recommend it to friends and family.

Room Tip: Take a room with balcony facing the Lauterbrunnen Valley.

We have just returned from our 3rd visit to this fantastic hotel. From the moment you walk through the doors you feel a welcoming and friendly atmosphere which continues for the duration of your stay. Giovannia, Cornelia and ALL the staff cannot do enough to make your holiday a memorable experience. Wherever you walk the sound of cow bells is never far away - magical. The bedrooms, especially those on the south side, have balconies with views which take your breath away, the mountains and the Lauterbrunnen Valley, with its superb waterfall, are just stunning. The transport system is second to none. Wengen is a traffic free village, but by using the cable car and/or trains, it is possible to explore the region without any difficulty. There are many fantastic walks for all abilities and at this time of the year the wild flowers are really beautiful. The food at the hotel is very varied, and extremely appetising and well presented - during our stay it was Swiss National Day and the Chef had created a most interesting buffet. We have visited this hotel during the winter as well and you don't have to be able to ski - walks are open which you share with toboggans. It is spectacular. We know we will return, there is nowhere quite like it.

Welcoming, comfortable, excellent cuisine, divine views, peaceful, perfect! Giovanni, Cornelia and ALL the staff will ensure that you have a holiday to remember. From the moment you are met at the station by the electric car (Yes, Wengen is a traffic free village) you will be transported to a different world, one without pressure, demands, noise or annoyance. Retiring at night with the balcony doors open, watching the moon rise above the snow-capped mountains and possibly hearing the distant waterfall induces a calm and peace which is rare in this busy world. Giovanni will ensure that your requirements are met, nothing is too much trouble, and you will be remembered by name at the reception desk from day one! The silver service in the dining room is pure pleasure, the staff are professional yet friendly and kind and the amazingly talented chef will provide exquisite culinary delights for you each evening. The scenery is stunning, the walking suitable for all abilities from easy to tough and the transport around the area by mountain train, gondola or bus is always on time and so convenient for easy connections should you wish to explore other villages and places of interest. For us Wengen is heaven on earth in every respect, very special, and, unlike many people we have met at the Wengener Hof who have been returning for countless years, we have only visited three times but there is no doubt it will not be our last!

Room Tip: Pay a little more and have a South facing balcony room for a stunning view though all rooms are quie...

Hotel Wengener Hof is situated in a peaceful area of Wengen Village, and a five minute stroll from the village amenities and train station. The hotel is what i would say old world/shabby chic, but it lends itself totally to the area. The rooms are cosy, the staff are great and the buffet breakfast had a good selection. The best though is the view from my room balcony,of the stunning Jungfrau and mountain range.Would definitly stay here again.

Room Tip: Make sure you book a Jungfrau view room

Wengen enchants us! My wife and I have returned every year since 1990. We have been to many countries around the world including Australia, South Africa, USA, Canada and most countries in Europe but we have never found anywhere like Wengen and the Jungfrau Region.
The Wengener Hof is managed by the genial Giovanni and the ever efficient Cornelia and they really know how to make guests feel welcome ensuring every staff member understands that customers value friendliness and sensitive, caring service.
The hotel is not in the modern style with fancy spa facilities, pools etc (although these are available at their sister hotel only 5 minutes walk away) but there is free wifi and internet. What there is, in abundance, is comfort, peace, stillness and excellent food and service. White napery, silver service, quality menus and wines and a clientele that respects each others' space. Guests return (like us) year after year. The demographic range in summer tends towards older couples but a real mix has always been evident from families with teenagers to single folks and couples renewing old (international) acquaintances.
The hotel location is (as many other reviews state) simply spectacular. I don't know anywhere else where the mountains are so picturesque and yet so accessible. The transport systems are well organised. always connect and are always punctual. The area is like a geography lesson brought to life (remember all that stuff about glacial activity!) with soaring mountains, beautiful lakes, cable cars, trains and miles of walking to suit all abilities.
The weather can be mixed but undoubtedly we have just had the best week ever; bright, hot sunshine every day with a cooling breeze allowing you to breathe that fresh mountain air.
I realise my enthusiasm is somewhat repetitive but really, there is nowhere better for us.
In summary, both the hotel and Jungfrau region are as good as it gets and I am sure we shall return for many more years to come. Don't all rush at once!!

Room Tip: You must book a south facing balcony room. The view will add to your experience and linger in your m...

This is a great hotel, at which we've stayed in the winter and the summer. In a spectacular location, it provides a generous, friendly and comfortable base from which to ski, walk or tour. The restaurant is excellent and sensitive to vegetarian needs. The staff, especially in the restaurant are delightful. Rooms are spacious and well-equipped. Italian owned and largely Italian staffed (with a largely, but not exclusively, British clientele), there is a warmth and cheer about the place that makes it hard to leave. The only minor suggestion for improvement relates to the common areas of foyer lounge and bar, both of which are dated and - untypically for the hotel - unwelcoming. Both could be easily modernised - and should be.

Room Tip: The valley facing rooms are great in the summer when the weather allows you to enjoy the view. In w...

This was our second visit to the hotel, and this time we had a south facing room with a balcony. The weather was splendid, and we enjoyed sitting out on the balcony with a view of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, and provided us with a splendid cold platter when we first arrived late in the evening. The choice for breakfast was very good, the packed lunches every day made all the days out walking and exploring so much easier to manage, and the evening meals were varied and interesting.
