Went on a Crystal ski package as it provided best deal for HB with single room and easy doorstep access to town and ski lifts. Other large hotels in town are far superior but too expensive (almost double this).
Thought the room amenity wouldn't matter as hardly in it, but it wasn't good - especially the brown decor, tight size and thin walls so you hear everything to the sides. The worst thing though was the general ambience and depressing feel, not helped by being fairly empty in late January and no welcoming bar open late afternoon when you return from ski-ing, no heated boot room, no lifts, basic food and limited choice for dinner.
Some meals were very poor (especially that unheard of fish) but some surprisingly good soups and stews (veal/venison) and salad bar has a good choice of the usual stuff. Drinks as everywhere in town are just too expensive for us Brits - nearly £4 for a small beer. Breakfast was fine, with a nice chioice of cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit, boiled eggs, breads, jams, meats and cheese and decent enough tea/coffee.
The young staff are helpful but not a bundle of fun. However thank goodness it does attract some regular fun lovers trying to holiday on the cheap who made my stay enjoyable nonetheless, especially Dougie and Gail who I'll never forget! (Doe a deer,...!).
If you can afford better certainly go for it, but this is central, clean and bearable if you go open minded not expecting top cuisine and spacious modern rooms.
