“A perle in the Swiss Alps”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2014

Hotel Astoria combines the best traditions of excellent Swiss hotel management with a warm and personal service from the staff and the management. The hotel is very Swiss and has been run by the same family for several generations. The rooms, service and food is top quality and the activities and entertainment are of high standard and make you feel at home on the top of the Alps. We enjoyed the relaxing whirlpool after a long day on the excellent slopes surrounding Arosa. This is certainly the place to stay if you want to explore the Arosa area skiing or hiking.

The Astoria is located a short walk from the centre of Arosa, and so prime position for the ski lifts. The hotel itself is traditionally cosy, with simple but comfortable rooms. There is also a spa complete with steam room, sauna and whirlpool - perfect for relaxing after a day pounding the slopes. Breakfast and Dinner are great with a wide selection of food - particularly the extensive salad bar at dinner! Oliver, Edith and their adorable child are fantastic hosts, their friendliness and helpfulness making the whole stay extremely enjoyable.

My three children 22, 19, 18 and I have just returned from a fabulous stay at the Hotel Astoria.
We all had a fabulous time. Edith and Oliver are two lovely people, they work so hard to ensure that everyone has a great time. The menu was translated into English for us every evening. We arrived on the 26th December and left on the 2nd January. The supper on New Years Eve was
excellent and it was a wonderful evening with complimentary cocktails and a band playing until
after midnight.

Arosa was magical on New Years Eve with church bells ringing and a wonderful display of
fireworks which could be seen from my balcony room. The views from the balcony were stunning We were very fortunate and had lovely sunny days complete with fresh snow falling every couple of days.

The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms are all immaculate with lots of hot water. I had recommended the hotel to friends and their two sons and they will definitely return. I stayed here last year, and would never stay anywhere else in Arosa. Thank you so much Edith and Oliver.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony.

We can't praise the Astoria highly enough. We had a lovely long weekend ski break in Arosa before Christmas. The rooms were perfect for our needs and very clean and the food was great. Oliver and Edith made us feel very welcome and were extremely helpfull and knowledgable. They directed us to a great ski shop, printed off our lift passes for us and recommended places for lunch nothing seemed too much trouble.

If there was one downside to our visit it was that this early in the season many of the runs were still under preparation and therefore shut. We had just about enough skiing for a long weekend but would probably have got a bid bored in the resort for a week. However once the resort opened properly and when the link to Lenzerhide opens I'm sure the skiing will be as fantastic as the Hotel Arosa.

We loved this hotel - we had a very early ski break with out family & friends (7 of us) and it worked out brilliantly. The hotel is run by Oliver & his wife Edith who are a lovely young couple who speak great English and they could not have been more helpful. The rooms are lovely with super modern bathrooms & the food is great. Location wise its 5 mins walk from the centre and they have a great arrangement with the Ski Shop Beck right opposite the main lift where you can leabe you skis & boots etc so no heavy schlepping with loads of kit! Arosa is perfect this time of year for a short breadk (as the link to the next valley wasnt open) and the Astoria was the perfect place for a pampering & lovely holiday.

Room Tip: the family suites are great & spacious

This is a very nice hotel in a great location, beautiful views, staff was very helpful. Rooms are nice and bathrooms modern, the only complaint I would have is that the single rooms are very small even by european standards. spa was clean and relaxing, gym equipment is nothing special but I realize few people actually use the stuff but some more free weights would be a good addition. The buffet had a raclette bar the night I was there which was a big hit with the group I was with. I would be happy to stay again.
