Very small restaurant with lots of atmosphere. Food is amazing and served in old pots making for a truly unique dining experience. Service friendly and relaxed adding to the overall experience. A must when in St Moritz.

“If you wanna get ripped off, go!”
Reviewed 10 January 2013

We recently had dinner here and initially we got a good vibe from the location. Our waitress was very friendly and very courteous and the location very cozy. For dinner we had the coq au vin which was good and some type of fondue which we later discovered was supermarket quality cheese with a Michelin stared restaurant price (36 sf). We also had asked for a half bottle of wine since my husband was driving but the waitress indicated that they didn't have half bottles and instead we could order half a liter of open wine which was local. We trusted her and did so without asking the price. To our surprise when we saw the bill she had charged us for 5 glasses of wine for a total of 60 sf. I could have ordered a bottle of better quality wine for that price as there was a vast selection of wine on the menu for reasonable prices. At the end of the night we had cheap cheese, average chicken, and half a liter of wine without a name, year, choice, and the ability to taste in advance (as you always do with fine wine) and a 130 sf bill. Talk about being ripped off!

Dear TraveledEnough2know

thank you very much for your evaluation on tripadvisor, which we like to comment as follow:

You ate in our cosy Stüvetta a Racelette, which is not a Fondue but a Swiss speciality, where you melt your cheese yourself on the table in a special gadget. The cheese we serve is made by the Sennerei at Pontresina, a cheese producer close to St. Moritz, who uses just milk from the area - so not to compare with a supermarket cheese. The Raclette includes potatoes, gherkins and pearl onions. The cost of this dish is CHF 29 and not CHF 36 as you wrote.

You ordered half a liter (5 dl) wine and our waitress presented you our selection of local and Italian wine. You choose the local red wine and we served you a Schloss Salenegg Blaubundunder in the normal o,7l bottle quality, for which we charge CHF 66 per bottle and CHF 10 per dl. We do not offer wine from liter bottles or even 3 liter packs as open wine, because we are not convinced with the quality. Therefore most of our guests are very thankful. So we charged CHF 50 for 5 dl wine. Yes, we also offer bottles of wine for less than CHF 50 but this is not a local wine as you desired!

So at the end of the night you had a Racelette of local cheese, a delicious chicken (that’s what you said to the waitress), and half a liter of local, high quality wine for CHF 110. Our rates are fairy calculated and it is not our policy to ripp off our guests.

Dear TraveledEnough2know, we hope you travel even more to tell the difference between get ripped of and serving high quality food.

We wish you all the best!

Yours
Ursina Schweizer, Martin Haier & Team
