Having visited most of skiing resorts in Europe, this year we went to St. Moritz and stayed in Waldhaus am See. It is located right on the lake, but still very close to the city center and walking distance from the train station. It offers the most stunning views over the lake and surrounding mountains. The staff is most friendly always open to help and comfort guests. Hotel has nice spa and all other necessary amenities. A hotel driver takes guests right in front of the ski station on demand and the drive takes less than 5 minutes. Overall, we all agreed to meet exactly in the same place next year to enjoy this most charming place on eart. St. Moritz and hotel Waldhaus am See are simply the best.

Stay: 2 nights in January 2017. Good value in an expensive little town. Highlight is the views of the lake, town and surrounding alps.
Staff: English speaking, friendly & helpful.

Room: Double bed, on 2nd floor with great lake / town / alps view.
Modern ambiance – wooden floor, old style but effective bar heaters. Couldn’t see any signs of air-conditioning which may be a problem in summer.
Bedside tables with power outlets, work desk & chair, plenty of wardrobe space.
Robes and towels for the spa (which I didn’t try).

Excellent sleep quality. Curtains fully covered windows, quiet location away from town. The plumbing was a little noisy whenever someone else had a shower – a little didgeridoo sounding to an Aussie.
Tip: in the bathroom at night, use the round dimmer switch to turn on the small sky light rather than the square light switch – a fan automatically switches on/off with this main light but takes about 10-15 mins to switch off.

Bathroom: Modern, decent size, basic toiletries, thick towels including face washers, stand-alone shower.

Amenities: In-room safe, phone, minibar, coffee/tea facilities, CD player with a selection of music CDs.

TV: Smallish Samsung LCD. Channels (English, starting at Ch 200): BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BBC4, ITV1, ITV2, ITV4, PBS America, Channel 4, E4, More 4, Film 4, Channel 5, CNN, BBC World News, Al Jazeera, CCTV, Russia Today, CNBC, Bloomberg, plus Eurosport (German). Good system with TV guide.
WiFi: Free, but with site blocking. Requires voucher from reception with wifi code. Worked fine, stayed connected.

Breakfast: Fair selection of hot (fry your own eggs) & cold dishes. A table is reserved in your name for breakfast. Dinner was very nice in the elegant dining room.

Location: 5 min walk from train station, 20+ min walk over to the town. Free shuttle service available for both trips.
Very tranquil location, especially at night. Room with lake/town/alps view hard to beat.

we stayed just one day so didn't have the opportunity to really enjoy the hotel but I must say our brief experience was excellent. Rooms are very comfortable, spacey and clean. food was very good too. The only glitch breakfast service could only speak german and didn't handle neither english nor italian. but we managed neverless.

This hotel is perfectly fine, but what sets it apart is the massive whisky bar attached to it. World of Whisky is worth a visit if you are anywhere close to St. Moritz (and if you like Whisky, of course). They offer tasting menus including a rare whisky tasting menu.

Room Tip: The whisky bar (World of Whisky) has a stunning selection!

We went to the cafeteria of the hotel due of a rainy visit so we still could enjoy a nice view of the lake without getting wet. The dessert are nice we tried the appfelstrudel and the atmosphere is very nice even if you are going with a bit noisy kids like mine
