“A real treasure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2013

We booked this as a stopover between Lake Como and Lake Maggiore, thinking it would be a harmless few days but not really expecting very much. How wrong could we be! Lugano is a lovely place, full of beauty and fun, with lots to do. The Continental Parkhotel was a delight, all the staff very welcoming and friendly, and the facilities excellent. Breakfast was the usual international buffet, but nicely done. We dined in the hotel restaurant one evening and were not disappointed. Other reviewers have mentioned the train station, but it really isn't an issue in a city hotel. We would return!

Upon check-out, our bill was 40CHF per night higher than expected and we were informed that we had to pay extra for the crib for our daughter. If this is their policy, they should have informed us when we arrived rather than try to sneak it on to our bill when we were leaving. With this price increase, we would have been better off staying a nicer hotel that was closer to the lake. If you are traveling with a small child, be aware of the extra charge so that you can include it when comparing prices. We really enjoyed our visit to Lugano and plan to come back, but we will never stay here again.

I came back to the Continental Park hotel after a couple of years. This traditional European style hotel is ideally located next to the Lugano train station. Easy to reach on foot in 5 minutes when coming off a train from Zurich or Milan. Nicely updated rooms with all amenities including A/C which is helpful in Lugano during summer when it can get rather hot. There is a nice swimming pool in lush gardens above the hotel. I was there in July. The place was crowded and service at breakfast should be improved. Also, when checking out at 06:30 to catch a train there was nobody at the front desk to handle bill paying. The hotel has very limited parking. Especially on the weekends it was extremely difficult to park the car when arriving in the evening.

Room Tip: If you want a very quiet room, chose one out to the back. Front rooms get the noise of trains passin...

Excellent experience from perspective of hotel location, service quality, food standard, attention to details, and most of all care for the customers. Pool facility in middle of a nice garden was rejuvenating.

Looking forward to come back again.

we reached Lugano by rail and found the hotel located conveniently nearby. The lady at the reception was very pleasant and very helpful. we stayed in the main block and the view of the lake was fantastic. We loved the gardens n pool n generally enjoyed our stay there. The Buffet breakfast had a good variety and the staff courteous. The only thing we really missed was theTea arrangement in our room. All in all we would stay there again n also reccomend it to our family n friends.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms with lake view.

We stayed for 2 nights (start of our honeymoon) and were rather disappointed. Although check in was friendly, nobody offered help with our suitcases and the room had an interconnecting balcony with the next room so the guest next door could walk right into our room. The curtains are too sheer, need to be heavier. The shower pressure pushes the shower head up so the water sprays all over the room. The bathroom fittings were dusty.

We sat outside to get a drink. The bar man said hello and indicated a table then ignored us for 15 minutes. We decided to get a drink elsewhere and walked past him but he didn't even glance up. How rude. So we didn't consider eating there either.

The bed was quite comfortable but only had 1 thin pillow each side. We phoned down for another but 20 mins later no pillows. We called again and the woman finally brought 2 more. The bath towels are quite small and thin and there is no towel for your hair, just a couple small hand towels. No shower cap either.

The rooms are OK, basic and cleanish, no light on the balcony so you can't read outside in the evening. There is a safe but no iron and ironing board. There is a hair dryer and TV (didn't use). The hotel offers free wifi.

We missed breakfast this morning so can't comment on that. But for 160 francs a night I believe you could do better elsewhere. We wouldn't stay here again. It's just not up to standard.

I had reserved 2 nights in a “comfort” single at the Continental Parkhotel in June, and was pleased to be upgraded to a “superior” room, which had a pleasant little balcony at the back of the hotel (away from the train station). (If security is of great concern to you, note that the balconies are interconnected.) This hotel was obviously once quite elegant and it retains many traces of its heydey in its lovely lobby and other common areas. My room was fairly basic, but it was clean and comfortable and the bathroom had plenty of counter space. Staff were multilingual and helpful.

The breakfast buffet held a very extensive range of both hot and cold options. I also I had a good dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. I began with a pleasant amuse bouche of cheese and seasoned fava beans with tomato. My appetizer was a very good, very flavorful cream of tomato soup. For my main course, I had beef, which had been perfectly cooked and was served with sides of a baked tomato, lemon, and one’s choice of fries or vegetables. I was a bit frustrated, though, that staff insisted that I (a solo traveler) could use only one of a few specific tables – the ones with the least attractive views out over the train station. There were plenty of other tables on each occasion that I dined here (two breakfasts and one dinner), so limiting me to these few undesirable tables seemed unnecessary.
