“A Dream Hotel in Zermatt-the best”
Reviewed 31 October 2013

Before traveling to Zermatt, i inquired at about 40 hotels in the town….many were closed already for the season, which narrowed it down a bit, but considering all that, i don't know how i got so lucky as to have chosen the Suitenhotel Zurbriggen. Obviously the angels were shining down upon me for this one.
They picked us up from the train station in their little covered electric vehicle and when we walked into our apartment-sized room with floor to ceiling windows looking out on the glorious Matterhorn, we instantly changed our plans and booked an additional 2 days here, for a total of 5.

This hotel has uber personality imbued in it from attention to all the details including the many touches from renowned artist Heinz Julen. The architecture in and of itself is stunning, interesting and goes way beyond a typical hotel building with each suite situated on its own half level (easily walked up the stairs or a glass elevator that stops at each). Perfectly, the rooms are arranged so that if you are more than 2 people, they rather seamlessly connect to another double room, so you have essentially a 2-bedroom, 2 bathroom suite with kitchen, living room, multiple balconies
The top level suite is 3 bedrooms.

Waking every morning to a view of the Matterhorn from our bed and breakfast table was a pure treat.

One other reviewer plied every detail in much better prose than I. Suffice it to say that this hotel is pure perfection. Having traveled the world my entire life, i can honestly say, this is the best hotel i have ever stayed in. The service is as good or better than many of the top hotels in the world but you can stay here and never see another guest because there are only a couple handfuls of rooms.

Ideally situated across from the Klein Matterhorn gondola if you are a skier. Far enough from the bustle of town to be quiet. For the kids and us, the wellness center (ice grotto, sauna, steam, fun shower, foot bath, pool, jacuzzi, game room with fireplace, afternoon tea and cakes, free movies, and resting beds) was all so much fun to go try out. Though only a single massage room, the treatment menu is interesting and goes way beyond typical by offering lymph drainage, lomi limi and other unique healing methods. You will fall asleep to the rustle of the river below if you tilt the sliding glass door to the vent position and wake to the grazing sheep and their tinkling bells in the morning.

did i mention that the breakfast menu is essentially order-whatever-you-want? Experiment and try the various swiss meats, swiss cheeses, breads, mueslis, cereals, yogurts and more. During turn down service, the staff sets the table for your breakfast the next morning. Our room even had a Miele dishwasher!

My entire family can't wait to return here. We recommend it to anyone traveling to Zermatt.

Room Tip: Every room is actually perfect.

Staying at Suitenhotel Zurbriggen was the highlight of our trip to Switzerland. Partly due to the beautiful weather (we were in Interlaken for 2 days before, where the weather was depressing), but largely because of this gorgeous hotel.

We were smitten by the connecting suite we were assigned to. The suite was absolutely stunning, offering unobstructed views of the Matterhorn- just hills and trees and flowers, without any hotels/ cars/ buildings in sight. This is definitely one hotel with the destination to unwind from an urban pace of life. The entire suite was equipped with Bang & Olufsen TV and audio system. Extra blankets and hot water tumblers were also thoughtfully provided, in case guests wants to sit outdoors and enjoy the stunning view.

Complimentary welcome drinks were also served- from juice to champagne and light snacks. With the free movie rental and the Matterhorn as a background, we decided to stay in the suite and enjoy it to the fullest. The kitchen was also fully functioning and clean, so if guests wanted to cook, the nearest supermarket is the one at the Zermatt station (used the free bicycle, too far for us to walk!).

The hotel is also very conveniently located (literally) right across the station, where you could take a cable car ride up to the top of the alps. Pity we arrived too late, as the last return ride would be about 4pm.

Breakfast was another pampering experience. We got to choose whatever we wanted from the extensive menu and have it served to our suite. It was such a pity we had to leave after just 1 night's stay and so early in the morning, but the hotel was really accommodating to our early breakfast request. Mr. Zurbriggen was even kind enough to personally take care of our check-out and personally sent us to the train station.

Thank you for such a memorable experience. We really hope to be back in Zermatt for the beautiful scenary and fresh air, and without doubt, stay in Suitenhotel Zurbriggen again!

Room Tip: The hotel boasts a full view of the Matterhorn from all rooms!

Staying at Suitehotel Zurbriggen is a once in a lifetime experience - take the opportunity to upgrade and pay for a view of the Matterhorn, and you won't regret it. This hotel was an absolute highlight of our visit to Switzerland, in every respect. The customer service is exceptional. We were picked up by a buggy from the train station, and offered a complementary upgrade to the top floor with a full view of the Matterhorn and a skylight to look up to the night sky. Two glasses of champagne followed (provided by the hotel), as we watched the sunset offer the uninterrupted view.... simply magical. From 4-9pm, guests have access to the wellness centre, which includes free (delicious) cake, a range of herbal teas, a sparkling indoor pool with a side glass feature wall & chandelier lighting, an ice room, separate sauna and steam rooms (with the sauna featuring coloured mood lighting) & a massage room. The outdoor spa is an absolute treat, with views overlooking the dramatic Matterhorn. There was construction occurring nearby, but this did not detract from our stay. For breakfast, you can choose from a wide selection of options that are available to be delivered to your room, including special requests. Subtle touches (such as the staff 'making up the room') while we were out, added to the experience. The hotel is directly across from a lift that goes to the top of the Matterhorn and is at the far end of the town, which is car free, excluding buggies. There is a free flowing creek/waterway & walking tracks nearby, with no restaurant on site. This is a smaller hotel, so is ideal for couples.

Room Tip: Two words: Matterhorn view.

We booked a comfortable, stylish double-room and been served our breakfast in the beautiful garden being all by ourselves. After our daily trekking we enjoyed laying in the whirlpool and looking at the Matterhorn. Service was warm and welcoming, the location is very convenient. We are already looking forward to spending our next mountain trip there.

Summer, after long day hikes the hotel has a complete spa but it was the outside Jacuzzi that did it for us, with it's perfect view of the Matterhorn. We stayed in the little chalet, which was modern and cozy and just a short walk to the main hotel.

The fun starts when you´re picked up at the station by the electro car. Warm welcome at the hotel and very nice suite with a B&O System. We also rented the "Gaedde" which is like a cute little chalet by itself not far from the hotel. The wellness area is neat and there´s tea and coffee time with fresh warm cakes. We did meet even Pirmin Zurbriggen who is a Ski legend and he´s a very nice person.
