Description: As an alpine restaurant, Blatten exists since the beginnings of tourism in Zermatt and it has kept its traditional appearance. Initially, around 1850, it was a little teahouse run by the family. Since the early 1950s, the mother Ludowika has been the hostess of the place for decades. The Taugwalder family has a tradition of both gastronomy and mountain climbing. Indeed, Leander himself met his wife Simone on the top of the Matherhorn. Since more than 30 years, we, Leander and Simone, run this place with passion. The young generation, our daughter Sarah with her husband Hans, assist us actively. - Restaurant on two levels - First floor seats up to 43, second floor 47 - Terrace with 140 seats - Winter season from December to April - Summer season from June to October - Warm kitchen every day from 11:30am to 5pm - House owned organic herb garden - On the path: Ricola herb garden and Gornergorge (during summer season) - During winter season every Wednesday Fondue evenings. Reservations necessary.

Easy reacheable when you on food from one of the lifts. Easy 1( min down the hill, with quite some steps. Very friendly owner & staff.
Inside is somewhat small and packed with tables. Simple decoration, but ok for Mountain restaurant. The food is good, not a top restaurant, but hey you're on the mountain and probably going to stop here to have a good lunch not dinner.
If you're on food, it's an easy walk down to Zermatt that shoulden't take you longer than 30 min.

Our first meal in Zermatt was in Blatten which is about 30 mn walk from Zermatt. The little village has just one restaurant which is set in a traditionnal valaisan chalet, It was a beautiful day and we sat outside. Our dishes were delicious be the funghi porcini soup, the salad with fresh mushrooms(chanterelles) or the walnut raviolis. Dessert was great too and I will give special mention to the homemade rhubarb icecream.
It will certainly be a place I would love to go back.
Just a note : service was a bit brisk but it was pretty crowded so understandable.

We found this place after a summer hike and after a drizzle we thought of having a drink. The place was so cozy and the owner so nice and pleasant, that we decided to stay and order some food. We ordered rösti with ham and eggs and it couldn't been better. Then we rounded it up with meringues and home made caramel and chocolate ice cream. Mmmmmhhhhh!!!! Delicious.

I read some reviews describing it during the busy winter season. No idea how it would be, but it's a very cozy place. The atmosphere was so nice now!

Would love to be back.

We had lunch there today.
Service excellent and order brought quickly.
I had the one of the specials, calf liver with rosti and veggies and it was very good.
My wife had ravioli stuffed with walnuts and ricotta that she said was excellent.
A good meal and time was had by all but a bit expensive.
