A truly memorable stay

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 15 May 2019
We stayed at the Jaegerhof as part of a train holiday through Switzerland. As it was in early May, quite a few of the ski towns were very quiet with the majority of hotels closed. When we arrived at the Jaegerhof the lady there informed us that my wife and I and our two touring companions were the only guests at the establishment. She had come in to check us in and would be available by phone if there were any issues. We were accommodated in two apartments with views of the Matterhorn and the rooms were excellently fitted out. As breakfast was included in our booking, arrangements were made for us to eat at a nearby hotel and this went without a hitch. Thank you Jaegerhof for being the outstanding stay of our trip to Switzerland.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with views of the Matterhorn.

One cannot blame anyone on the weather, particularly in the mountains, and the professionalism and friendliness of the personnel, as well as the high quality of the hotel amenities, more than made up for whatever disappointment we may have had with the clouds and rain. Very pleasant staff, from the receptionist to the bus driver. Excellent breakfast choices - one really sees attention to detail and dedication to quality local products in the choice of breakfast offerings. Can leave baggage in a locked storage room – the checkout time is a relatively early 1000, but the breakfast remains open until 1100. The hotel is undergoing renovation, and, even though ours was not one of the renovated ones, it was certainly spacious and comfortable, and d much larger than we had expected. The breakfast area is in a newer section and is quite attractive. Really, we would have had a hard time finding a better hotel at the price and location.

We were impressed with this hotel from the moment we were picked up at the train station and taxied to the door. All the staff are very nice and knowledgeable and provide helpful tips for your stay. We had a view of the Matterhorn from our room - very nice! Our room was large with a queen bed. TV had some English channels (CNN, BBC) to catch up on news back home. There was a large bath and plenty of closet space (a safe is inside) and shelves for storage. Wi-fi was good. You can get a kettle at the front desk if you like. Breakfast was very nice - (7 - 11:30 am) in the large dining room on the first floor. Scrambled eggs, bacon, ham and cheese slices, assorted breads and croissants, yogurt with mix-ins, and a self serve coffee/cappuccino machine.
Location is at the edge of town so it's a bit of a walk to town center, but lined with shops and restaurants.

Room tip: Go for the Matterhorn view!

We are not ski people but from the moment we called to be collected from the train, the welcome could not have been warmer. Great advice, food and conversation and close to the main action without being in it. Would love to stay again

Nice family run hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are not fancy but views are good from Matterhorn view rooms (if not cloudy). Spacious balcony but too cold yet to use it. In 444 the ceiling of the shower is low and my husband and I both hit our heads. I recommended to the staff that they put a warning sign. Also the shower products are not great—I had to buy soap.
The food was yummy. We had 1/2 board and breakfast and dinner were really good. It’s what made this hotel such a good value.
A bit of a hike from the train station, but they have taxi service for free if you don’t want to walk.

Dear Noel,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a helpful and valuable review.

Yes, we have a few rooms with bevelled walls. In charming Swiss style chalet buildings this cannot be avoided. But we will put up a warning sign, exactly like you suggested.

It's a 10 minute walk to the train station and, as you wrote, we offer a free pick-up and drop-off service.

We're glad you liked our yummy breakfast and dinner food and you're right - our hotel offers great value indeed ;-)

We hope to see you again in the future!
