Decided to go to Zermatt after watching the batchelor on tv late in Australia!! Well my husband and I loved the hotel!! We had a beautiful room with a view of the Matterhorn and enjoyed the pool and spa area!! We had robes and slippers so as not to wet our clothes and sitting in the spa at the end of a busy day seeing this glorious town was just what we needed! The staff were wonderful and we were treated like royalty. We took a summer special and had lovely breakfasts and a dinner included in our 2 night stay and were picked up at the railway and returned at the end... Which we didn't want to end. Thankyou to all the staff and owners for our wonderful experience at your hotel and hopefully get back again someday!!

I stayed in room 404 one of the cheaper rooms in the roof area. Room is not as good as the more spacious Matterhorn view ones with flat screen TV that I stayed in last time. This one is smaller still enough room for a double bed but older CRT 20 inch TV. Only a few UK channels but still good free WIFI. Rooms are kept very clean. The service from the staff has been very good too. The waiter guy is good at his job very smartly dressed and has a good professional attitude. Yet again the swimming pool and SPA area is what makes this hotel special. The free tennis court outside, the free mini golf on the swimming pool roof and the free billiard/pool table overlooking the pool. A small gym area next to the billard room. The beds are comfortable and I have no problems sleeping. No excessive noise from other guests. A small ski room perhaps not big enough to handle high season but not been to see that. It seems about half full. Breakfast is good buffet style help yourself. Cooked breakfast I like the scrambled eggs. Plenty of variety, selections of bread types, jams, a good expresso/latte coffee machine, chopped fresh fruit, various yogurts and types of cheese and cold sliced meats. I'd recommend this hotel and would visit again.

A hotel staff member was very rude to us. Early in the morning, we were locking the door when he suddenly appeared from nowhere and told us to be quiet. We were not making any noise to disturb the other guests. Also, when one of our tour memberes was to leave the room, he suddenly entered the room and switched off the lights. Why could he enter the guest room without any permission. We told him he was too rude to the guests and should apologize to us. However, he pretended not to understand any English and didn't say 'Sorry'to us. Why could he be hired without speaking any English, I wonder. The hotel manager should train him to be more disciplined. Although the other staff members were very kind to us, the hotel gave us the bad impression because of him.

The Christiania is a very nice hotel in Zermatt. For those of you that haven't been to Zermatt, there are no gas powered vehicles in Zermatt. The Christiania welcomes you with the typical alpine look. The rooms that face the Matterhorn have a splendid view. We went in the summer, June to be exact. Like most hotels in Zermatt, there is no AC in the room. As we left the windows ajar during the day (but not open-so othe room was secure), the room was actually quite warm by the time we returned after dinner. You can throw open the window and door and get some nice cool air in, but in late June, the sun also rises by about 6 am. So, we generally left the windows open until my wife or I woke up during the night and then closed them. We also asked them to just leave a sheet instead of the duvet as the duvet was too warm. The breakfast is great with a wide assortment. Michaela at the front desk was most helpful as were all employees during our stay. If you let the hotel know what time you are arriving at the train station, they will meet you with the van. Or, you can call them from the station. It's about a 10 minute walk, slightly uphill, to the hotel. So, if you have heavy luggage, you will want to use the hotel's luggage service. It's free. There are now also a number of electric taxis in Zermatt. BTW, if you are going to spend more than 250 CHF in Switzerland, at your first train station, by the 1/2 off pass. It cost about 125 CHF in 2013. Once you buy it, every other train cost is 1/2. So, if you are taking any of the trains in Zermatt, or other trams, they cost about 100 CHF round trip. So, a couple of those, and the train trip to Taasch and you have about paid for it. If you are going to Jungfau or anywhere else, it is a big saving. Just make sure to keep them with you when you buy your tickets. You have to have the 1/2 off pass with you.

Room Tip: Pay the extra money to get the Matterhorn view. Rooms are bigger and the view is spectacular!

We stayed at this hotel for a few nights in June 2013. It was a beautiful hotel. A bit pricey, but worth the money and no complaints. Staff were very friendly from the second we arived and nothing was too hard. Our view of the Matterhorn was amazing and the rooms were really lovely. Actually only 1 complaint, the pillows were terrible! Luckily I travel with a comfy one :) the breakfast was really yummy too. Overall I highly recommend.

Room Tip: Matterhorn view with a balcony - can't go wrong!
