Our stay at the Helvetia was brief, just one night . We enjoyed the location, close to everything !
The room was very small. The bed was good, bathroom was tiny too, but worked for us.
Loved the balcony. Good breakfast too which was a plus as the food was very expensive in Zermatt !

Room Tip: Ask for balcony room

I have been to Zermatt for many many years so I know the area very well. This time I was traveling solo for a 6 days and meeting friends over there. I decided to save money on the hotel as my priorities were: skiing, wonderful lunches on the ski slope & nightlife. For those reasons I just needed a cosy room, clean with breakfast included. I chose to be in the middle of the village so easy to go out. This hotel is located in an hotel big chalet. They have done their best to isolate walls or doors from the street noise. I asked for a room in the back. Quieter but don't expect views. That is not the place for it. Just to sleep basically. For that the price was very good. Was there end of March and I had a very good time. One thing though they close the main door at 11pm so don't forget your keys ....
Service is average. Dining room is pretty and a nice place to start the day with breakfast.
There is a club in the same chalet called Grampis bar ... you may hear a little bit so for sensitive ears take some ear plugs - I was fine.
I would go back as it is a nice cosy place at a good price and good location.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are quieter but no view, rooms in the front are on the main street but have balcon...

My husband and I spent three nights at Hotel Helvetia. We had a great simple room with beautiful views of the snow covered mountain tops. The decor in both the room and bathroom is basic, but the location is fantastic! Right on the main street and close to all shops and restaurants. this is great on a freezing night when you want to have everything right at your doorstep. With one of the cheapest rates in Zermatt it is a clean, warm and a comfortable choice. A short walk to Elsie's small bar is definitely worth a visit too.

Stairs to rooms, no lift. English speaking, polite, helpful staff. Breakfast included. Not very exciting? Think again. This has got to be the best value hotel in Zermatt. Location, 5 mins walk uphill from station. Rooms with balcony overlooking the main street. They're small rooms sure, but if you intend to spend all your time in your room you're in the wrong place. Restaurants, bars & shops all around you. Worried about noise from other travellers? Join in or wear ear plugs. It is quite simply, a good value, comfortable & friendly hotal that was a pleasure to stay at.

This hotel is all about location, centrally on Bahnhofstrasse in Zermatt. Our tiny room barely fitted a decent double bed but was adequate for one night. It was clean, but the hotel has probably not seen any serious renovation since the early 80s. The price is high at over 200 CHF per night for a double with breakfast, even for Switzerland - but that is Zermatt in winter.

Room Tip: Some rooms have Matterhorn view, then again go out and take a closer look from any nice viewpoint.

OMG - Zermatt, what a great town!!!! We arrived via. the train, walked up the main drag to this adorable little restaurant and hotel. Up the stairs we went, only to find a cute little room tucked up into the rafters. Great bed, it was awesome as our window opened to the town square, so we could hear all the fun. The room was great, the restaurant was great. Come on down and have a great time in Zermatt!!!

We stayed late december and found the hotel to be very tired. (needing investment) The facilities were very basic (tiny portable balanced dangerously on the wardrobe) and we had bare wire on the 80's hairdryer. The room was very small even thoiugh we had paid for a standard and not the basic room which is advertised as smaller. We really needed a choreographer to help us both move around the double room with en suite. We worked out a pattern of simultaneous chair moving that helped us navigate the tiny space that the bed had not taken up. The room was noisy until 3am form the bar opposite and the balcony was shared with people smoking on it until the early hours - even though it was a wooden construction hotel. There is no instructions for breakfast. We only found out that you could order eggs when an american asked for some. This was all acceptable until checking out in the morning when the lady taking our money had absolutely no dialogue with us. She never asked how our stay was and processed the 250 swiss Francs for the night(mare) and then handed us a receipt and abruptly said bye. We did feel cheated as there was no interaction at all. Stay at your peril. We were limited in our choice as there was no other hotels available for our date. Zermatt however is beautiful. The first syllable in the hotel name should act as a caution.

Room Tip: Higher floors but no lift. Double edged sword.
