Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Very clean and comfortable rooms. The location is within a 5 minute walk of a major lift. I would not hesitate to return to this hotel or to recommend to a close friend.

Stayed here for a week in the off peak ski season time in January. Picked up by the porter after catching the train which was nice. THe hotel reception is little but the staff were very helpful and pleasant. The breakfast is fantastic with a huge range of everything from salmon/ cheese/breads cereals/teas to fruit / bacon/french toast with maple syrup and always you are served with efficient friendliness. WE didn't opt for half board and made the trek out to the pretty main street of Zermatt for dinners except when we were too tired. THe main street is a four minute walk away as are two of the ski transport areas. Otherwise there is a free bus at the bottom of the road 30 metres away that takes you to all of the ski transport areas. The room had super comfortable beds and we loved the pool and spa area. It was lovely - I don't know why the previous reviewer dissed it so much as it struck me as being very aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable. Robes/ slippers / towels are per usual. Most rooms have a bath in the room we luckily avoided that by requesting a room with a seperate bathroom as our travel set up would not have benefitted from that. If you are a romantic couple this would be cool but for friends family this is not what you want. The room we got did not have a bath as a result but as we used the spa every night it didn't matter. THe tv was tiny and there is no jug in the room but they will give you a large flask of hot water if you ask and you can generally get tea/ coffee from downstairs for free. They had copies of the New York Times ( intemational) daily to read in the lounge for English readers. Sunstar have a great deal where the mini bar is free - this was 1 x beer, coke, sprite and juices plus there is always a bowl of fruit by reception. Even better , providing you book through their website the price includes train travel to and from the hotel within Switzerland. This was brilliant for us arriving by plane from overseas. Zermatt is quite a crowded built up town so there is a lot of rooftops to be seen from the window however our room had a little balcony and a view of the Matterhorn which was nice and when it snowed it was pretty enough to see the trees outside all covered in snow. I would particularly recommend this hotel to couples more than families as it is a 'boutique' hotel and is less set up for family fun than other sorts of hotels might be.

Room Tip: If you don't want a room with a bath in the middle ask for one with a seperate bathroom. Book vi...

The Sunstar hotel of Zermatt does not meet the criteria to be classified as a 4 star hotel.
The reception looks like the typical reception of a 2 star hotel. A single elevator, which reminds the elevators of certain factories where employees need to load any kind of stuff…
The room I had for few nights had a great view of the Matterhorn (nothing to say about…) and the bed was well oriented in order to enjoy the view of the Matterhorn also when lying down.
But this was the only PLUS value of the room.
In fact at least one quarter of the room was occupied by a large (nice and comfortable) shower and a small washbasin. The toilet was in a tiny room…?!?…whose door was just at the entrance of the room. The toilet room was without window and without any sort of exhaust fan with the obvious consequences…
There was no bidet (I realize that the bidet is a sort of unknown device in many countries of the world…), but usually in a 4 star hotel room there is at least a bath tub…
Out of the room, the so called "wellness area" was ridiculous, with a Turkish bath with cold temperature, a sauna and the whole environment which needed to be completely renovated.
In conclusion if you are looking for a comfortable hotel with the typical PLUS of a real 4 star hotel, my advice is to avoid the Sunstar hotel of Zermatt.

I would highly recommend this hotel for the level of comfort offered at a very good price, which is positively surprising in a country like Switzerland where prices are generally far too expensive compared with Europe.
The Staff is very friendly and helpful, the location ideal, close to the station and the main street.
One feels at home as from the first minute.

Room Tip: Our from was on the North side, which was even cheaper with no inconvenient attached. The only diff...

Our first trip to Zermatt (overnight in from Geneva) was wonderful at the Sunstar Hotel. The manager, Sonya, is always around and willing to help with anything you need during your visit. We had 2 adjoining rooms on the 5th floor with a beautiful view of the Matterhorn from our balcony. We were planning to have the buffet breakfast which was included in our rate but enjoyed sleeping in and did not make it down by 10:30am. The manager let us keep our rooms for late checkout which enabled us to venture into town again and enjoy a few more hours in Zermatt. If you only have one night like we did, go for it. This is one of my favorite trips and I have been many places in the world. The chalets and hotels are so charming. There's no other place like it. I would love to return and see the village covered in snow and white lights. It's beautiful and the Sunstar hotel contributed to our positive experience. Many thanks to Sonya and her hard working staff.

Room Tip: Top floor south side for best view of the Matterhorn.

We made a last minute, late afternoon reservation at the Sunstar. There were three of us, and also our dog, and the Sunstar welcomed us with a larger room, as well as a special bed for the dog with complimentary doggie treats! We found the room to be very comfortable, and also convenient as it opened on to the garden area. Service was extremely warm and welcoming - the staff gave us great recommendations for a day hike and train ride, offered up swimsuits to borrow for the swimming pool if we wanted, and even gave us a very late, complimentary checkout.

Breakfast was one of the best I have experienced in a hotel so far in Switzerland, and although we didn't stay for the "typical Swiss dinner" it certainly sounded appealing.

The in-room shower and bath is a bit odd, and probably not my preferred way, but it was ok.

Overall, very highly recommend and will gladly return.
