Our family of 5 stayed in a family room with Matterhorn view. The price was much better than other hotels with similar rating. My initial concerns with the hotel location versus accessing ski areas was unfounded. The Gonergrat train up the mountain is within easy walking distance with skis - we often took it down at end of day to avoid walking/bus/taxi. The Sunegga funicular is also within walkable distance. The Matterhorn Express gondolas aren't within walking distance but the hotel provides free taxi vouchers for that and will call taxi. The service was excellent - special mention for Martyna K. who was always smiling. Room was modern, clean and spacious with 3 beds on main level and 2 on mezzanine. Buffet breakfast is great but probably great at all Zermatt Hotels. Kids loved the warm saltwater pool. Nice sauna and steam-room. Jacuzzi was not warm enough but often the case. Supermarket conveniently located next door.

This is our second stay at Best Western Alpen Resort. The hostess Inga again made us feel like home. We had booked two rooms since grandma came with us. One of the room has a separate bedroom so our 11-year-old has her own privacy. Our 4-year old stayed in the same room but there is a pullout couch he can use. The other room is huge too. Both rooms are very cleanly kept and nice beddings. Both rooms have a great views. Our children love the hotel -- the breakfast (freshly baked bread, fruits, yogurt, soft-boiled eggs) and the dinner. Before the dinner, they spent time at the pool (quite large) and at the playroom (foosball, pingpong and indoor volleyball). They call the play room the negative 2 floor! We have friends come visiting us and the children would disappear and play various games (hide and seek) in the negative two floor. This is a great family hotel and I would highly recommend it. The only regret we had is that we did not book ski school earlier enough. The ski school we ended up with, Alpine Swiss School, is not well run and our 4-year-old ended up napping three days in a roll during the lesson and was not paid attend to. Next time, we will come early and be prepared -- we would love to stay in Best Western Alpen resort again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the main building right above the dinner room. Our rooms have great views.

Booked for New Years so rates were on the high side but expected that anywhere. Great location away from the bustle of the center of town. Room had great views of the mountains and Matterhorn. Rooms were clean and beds were pretty comfy but not plush like some high end hotels Ive been in. Down pillows were nice. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Property was old skol and not updated but I was OK with it, had a nice homey warm quality to it. Breakfast that was included was very good…great coffee and good selection of food, except for the scrambled eggs, yikes they were bad! Sauna and pool were awesome. All in all I give it a good grade.

Room Tip: get a room with Matterhorn view.

It was a nice stay by the end of January. The location of the hotel is a bit off center, however, it is not an issue at all. On the contrary, it I san opportunity to walk around.

Rooms are not small, some of them are renovated some not. We stayed in a renovated one which was good.
Only complaint about the room that I have, is the noise by bathroom fan. It was so noisy and it is connected to bathroom light. It would have been much better if there was another small light source separate than the fan and powerful lamp of the bathroom.

I would stay there again if I go back to Zermatt but definitely for much better rate.

Room Tip: Ask from the renovated rooms. View of the Matterhorn is not so important in my opinion since you do...

No view but no issue as can see the Matterhorn outside the hotel. Afterall you shouldn't stay in room to look out for view while in Zermatt. There is so much to do. The room is so big 80sq metres. 2 double beds and 1 single bed. beds are comforatble. 2 sets of table and chairs. Big area but not cold, the heating was good and comfortable. The huge bathroom is one level down but access by stairs is within the room. There is even table and chairs in the bathroom. Separate toilet, separate bath cubicle and a huge bath tub with jaccuzzi. Kitchen is small but sufficiently equipped. Good breakfast was also provided. There is even a lift to help with transferring luggage. They also provide free shuttle transfer to/from the train stn. Just use the free phone to call them at the train station. Without luggage it is only a short walk from the stn. Can easily walk down Bahnhofstrasse.
Excellent experience staying in the room although a bit expensive.

Room Tip: you have to try it.

Excellent hotel with renovated rooms. Very large room (we had an extra bed) with balcony with a view the Matterhorn, large modern bathroom with large bath and excellent shower. Good breakfast included and free wi-fi but not very fast. They send a car to pick you up and take you back to the train station. It is only a 5 min walk but tricky with luggage and snow. Staff were friendly.
