“Great hotel!”
Reviewed 7 January 2013

My husband & I stayed at the Hotel Julen in October 2012 and loved it! The room was perfect - from the wooden walls, the fabulous Swiss decor and inroom amenities this was truly a romantic retreat. It is well worth paying for the room with a view of the Mattehorn. We sat out on the balcony with a terrific bottle of red Swiss wine (purchased at the corner store nearby) and had to pinch ourselves as we savoured the post card picture scenery! We had a fabulous cheese fondue dinner at the rustic "Schäferstübli" in the hotel which was great. Easy walking distance to the main street for shopping and dining and tto he train station. There is tons of parking in Tasche where you simply load your luggage onto a cart which you take right on the train to Zermatt. In Zermatt you roll your cart off the train and catch the transfer to the hotel! Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer.

We stayed here for four nights recently. Staff was outstanding, as was the location. It is an unadvertised fact that you can ski straight to the door of this hotel from either side of the mountain.

Skipped dinner at the hotel the first night in favor of seeing the town a bit, big mistake. Checked tripadvisor the next day, turns out its the best eating in zermatt. And if you stay there its only $35 chf. In zermatt, or anywhere in Switzerland for that matter, that is a steal, especially for the delicious food they served.

Rooms were clean and ours had an amazing view of the Matterhorn. Was impressed by the woodwork. Couldn't figure out how to turn off heat, and being a carless village, loud walking people. Tended to wake us if we left the windows open.

It seems swiss like heat, as everywhere we went tended to have heat in the mid 70s Fahrenheit. Which is way too high for this thrifty Yankee.

Breakfast was included and was amazing. Best crossaints we had ever tasted.

Overall this hotel was the perfect size, great food, great location, and great staff. It was expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the Matterhorn. The other side faces a very popular bar where they like to...

Romantic is the perfect definition for the hotel. The wooden walls, the fireplace, the decoration, the flowers, everything contributes to make this place perfect for a couple looking for a romantic place.
Fab breakfast and friendly staff makes the stay remarkable.
Cleaning the room twice a day should be highlighted as a shown of how much they care.
The city itself is considerably expensive, but the cost-benefit relation of the hotel is worthy.

We have been to Zermatt for the last 4 years and stayed at a couple of other venues. This was by far the cosiest hotel with a fab breakfast. We had a side balcony on our room so couldn't see the Matterhorn from the bed, but you pay for what you get so I can't complain about that. The room was large and very comfortably furnished. The location is excellent for access to the lift for November skiing, and the complimentary taxi to and from the station is great (taxis in Zermatt are otherwise extortionate). The hotel also sits above what has become our must do restaurant in Zermatt-the Schaferstubli-so we didn't even have to put out coats on to eat their lovely grub!

I have given the hotel an excellent rating because it would seem churlish to mention a couple of gripes and only give it 4 out of 5. The first gripe is:-lovely as the pool is, the air temperature in the basement pool area precluded lounging about on the sofas after a dip in the water-too chilly! The only other thing is that the bathtub in our room was a bit on the tiny side (only room for one!! ;) )

We stayed for one night at this hotel. The rooms were nice and cozy with a great matterhorn view. There was a fruit bowl in the room which made us felt very welcome. The beds were very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Dinner was great!! We really enjoyed our stay at Romantik Hotel Julen and will definitly recommend to our friends.

We stayed at the Hotel Julen based on recommendation from other friends who had a wonderful experience here. We could not have been more pleased. We had planned our stay at Hotel Julen to celebrate our anniversary and somehow the request was lost when making the on-line reservation. Although initially disappointed, we were accommodated graciously for our 2nd evening with an upgrade to a suite which was beautiful. Their effort to accommodate this special occasion was so appreciated. The only minor drawback is there is a bar near the hotel that stays popular well into the night. Only a problem if you are a very light sleeper. The woodwork throughout the hotel is beautiful making it a very special place to stay in Zermatt.

Loud bar across the street that can be heard in room until 2 am in the morning. Reception staff is unfriendly. However The decor of the room is cute, the location is convenient , and the cleaning staff try their best. This is a shoulder season for zermatt, so many hotels are closed.
