This hotel turned out to be an unexpected highlight of our two weeks in Switzerland. We have been 16 times but never visited Zermatt before so we chose to start our vacation there this time. We stayed for 6 nights but I could have stayed longer. This hotel is rated as a 3 star but in food, service, and location it definitely rates higher. It is small and intimate with a lovely lounge and dining room- all we were looking for. The decor is typically Swiss with light wood and white stucco walls. It is decorated with pictures and items of and from the region. You feel you are in Switzerland. The location is a 5 - 10 min walk from the rail station - just off the main street. It overlooks a small river than runs through the town and has an unobstructed view of the Matterhorn from most rooms. It is also on the edge of the "old town" for those interested in the history of the area. My husband is a skiier and the ski bus picks up in front of the hotel. We were on the 4th floor and my view was post card perfect!. The room is simple with a good size bathroom. It has a full tub and shower and adequate shelves for your toilet items. The window covers the width of the room and there is a full balcony with two comfortable chairs and a small table. Two beds or 1 king - comfortable. Adequate storage and enough hangers. Everything is clean and in perfect repair. The big surprise came at our first "5 course dinner". It was amazing - definitely a 4*+ experience. We took the meal plan - half board. There were 4 of us and I can honestly say we all loved every meal. We learned the chef has been with the hotel for 17 years so that says a lot. The staff were delightful and I want to say a special thanks to Agi who made our stay even more special. The hotel is a family run operation and our gracious hostess and owner Theresia Noll was always there to ensure things were done perfectly. I would definitely recommend this hotel as the price gives excellent value. It is one of the more reasonably priced hotels in Zermatt, a city that is known for its high prices. I plan to return there in the summer to enjoy the other face of Zermatt. It is also a good place to stay if you want to take a day excursion to Northern Italy. We went to Stresa on Lake Maggiore for the day - a great adventure.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for the Matterhorn view. If you don't there is no bad view but "the horn" is amazing to see any time of the day. Non skiiers will find lots of shopping and sightseeing to do so it does not have to be just a ski destination.

We stayed in Hotel Parnass for one week in February 2013. Hotel Parnass has four outstanding feature. Firstly it is very well priced for Zermatt, which is an expensive resort. Secondly its location is excellent. It is just outside the very centre of Zermatt, which can be too busy for my taste, and yet it is most conveniently located for access to the skiing facilities. Third is its food. We stayed on a half board basis and whilst the breakfast was no better than average, the dinner was superb. There was a good variety, evey night's dinner being refreshingly different. The food was very well prepared and cooked and clearly excellent ingredients were used. I recommend highly the half board option. Finally and perhaps most importantly the service is excellent. All the staff in the hotel are polite, efficient, friendly and helpful. They all spoke English, German and French fluently.

We reserved a room with a view of the Matterhorn. I recommend this strongly. There is a small premium to be paid but it is well worth it. The different views of this magnificent peak at different times of the day will keep you in awe. These rooms also have a large balcony which can be a great amenity although at the time we stayed the weather was far too cold to enjoy it properly.

The rooms of the hotel, whilst very clean, are a little too characterless for my liking and did not give the cosy feeling I would have liked in a Swiss ski resort but then you do not spend a great deal of time in the room and the price of the room is modest for Zermatt. Overall an excellent hotel.

I shall certainly stay at Hotel Parnass again in the future.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the Matterhorn are well worth a modest premium to be paid.

The Parnass is a lovely hotel. Clean, comfortable and very conveniently located - a short walk to the Gornergratbahn or Sunnega Express, and a bus stop right outside to get to the Matterhorn Express. Just outside the busy bit of town, so it's a quiet location but handy if you do want to experience Zermatt's pubs, bars, clubs and shops. The prices haven't changed significantly in the last four years, and they don't change for school holidays (unlike tour operators' prices!). Rooms are refurbished regularly, most of the staff speak English well. Excellent breakfast buffet, fantastic 4-course evening meals.

Room Tip: Expect to pay a little more for a room with a balcony as it has an unrestricted and rather awesome view of the Matterhorn and catches the afternoon sun. Fantastic place for a post-ski glass of fendant!

Great clean hotel in the middle of zermatt. Very good breakfast. Nice service. 3 min walk to the slopes. Awesome views. Only 5 min walk to/from train station. Desk keeper was very informative and friendly. I would definitely stay here again.

Six of us (a family of five plus a boyfriend) stayed at Hotel Parnass for 7 nights during the winter holidays and it exceeded our expectations. We spent the first two nights in the smaller non-view rooms which were cozy but fine (the bathrooms are a bit small), and then moved to the more spacious rooms with the Matterhorn views once those opened up. We were all extremely happy with the delicious 5 course dinners served there by the very warm and friendly staff. They did a great job substituting vegetarian options for our two vegetarian daughters. Teresa was very helpful in suggesting hikes and other activities when two of us decided to take a day off of skiing. The location was perfect - away from the hustle and bustle of the main shopping area but within easy walking distance of the center (5 minutes), the train station, the Sunegga lift, and right next to the shuttle bus stop for the gondola. There is a nice pastry shop across the street where we were able to pick up some inexpensive and delicious slices of quiche, which we did a couple of times to eat apres ski to save a bit on the expensive meals on the ski slopes. We highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: Book early so you can reserve the larger rooms with a view of the Matterhorn.
