To be honest, it was really a very nice hotel in the town of Zermatt. The room was excellent, the breakfast good, the hospitality was good. Could not really find a fault. We will be back again, if we come to Zermatt.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with Balcony. Mine was room 2 which was really good.

This hotel was clean and well run. It was far from the train station and hard to find. The people were helpful in suggesting a place to eat and how to get to the mountain lifts. The wifi worked better on the ground floor. The view of the Matterhorn was visible just a few steps from the hotel.

This hotel is one of the cheapest in Zermatt and offers simple and clean rooms. It is located 10 minutes away from Zermatt train station and is right behind the luxurious 5 stars Zermatterhof.

This hotel is perfect if for instance you come to Zermatt to ski or snowboard intensively and you just want to pay minimum price and have a simple room to sleep.

Shower and toilets are shared but it was right in front of our room, so it was not that inconvenient as we could have thought. Moreover, both shower and toilets were really clean.

Breakfast has quite a lot of choices for a 1 star hotel such as this one, and it overtook my expectations.

You can have unlimited wifi for only 5 francs, which is really cheap compared to the hotels which charge internet per hour. And the signal was really good, I could watch a movie in streaming without any problem.

The owner was really helpful, though not really smiling and a bit rude the very first minutes we got there. Maybe he had a bad day, I could understand. After, everything went really well.

A minus is that there's no lift in this hotel, so it can be quite painful if your room is on upper floors and you have to carry heavy baggage.

The hotel is located not that near to the train station. I think it is a good 10 to 15 mins walk. We arrived when it had recently snowed and it was not easy dragging our luggage on snow covered road. We were not given good instructions on how to get to the hotel and got lost. But we managed to find our way there eventually. No lifts so be prepared to carry your luggage up. Room is a bit small. We had trouble placing our two large suitcases. There is no kettle and no hair dryer in the room. But you can borrow a hair dryer and also ask for a hot water flask from the reception. Reception is closed at 9 pm so you have to make sure that you have what you want or you have to wait till the next morning.
Breakfast was okay.....but I think they had guests who takes food out of the room. The lady was keeping watch on all of the guests to make sure that the food stays in the room! You can see the Matterhorn when you step out of the main entrance. But for the price (CHF110.00 per night), it is one of the most reasonable priced hotel in Zermatt.
Value for money.

This is a great hotel with an owner who could not make you feel more welcomed to do more to make sure you enjoy your stay. Rooms are clean and comfortable. We came a day before our reservation when weather forced us down from our hike. We were accommodated and they then stored luggage for us when we went back out to finish the final two days of the Haute Route before returning for another night. Solid breakfast. Great location. You should stay here.

The owner is kind enough as we opted for a sharing bath room room but in the end he has provided us a room with a very nice private bath room. myself and my hubby is really grateful with that.
The breakfast is excellent with ham, eggs, corn flakes , coffees etc,
The room is clean enough and comfortable for two.
I will value this hotel as the best hotel which is not only worth for 3 star but instead 4 star and above with such great services,

the hotel Tannenhof was all we could find at a low price that hadn't already been fully booked. We arrived on a rainy day and had just a little trouble finding the place, because it is not off the main road. The rooms are substantial and beds were comfortable. there is NOT an elevator, and the steps must be a very old marble that the owner cherishes because he does not like luggage rolling up the steps. the owner seemed to be friendly enough though I didn't agree with his high price for poor quality WiFi ( poor because it only works in the down stair lobby). I will say that the breakfast is a variety and enjoyable, except for the staff lady that watches over everything you take from the breakfast table. Her concern is that you are packing yourself a lunch using their breakfast cuts of meat and breads, she will even accuse you of doing so and will tell you to go to the bakery and buy a sandwich for lunch. Yes, I was accused of this, after traveling all over Europe i have found that I enjoy a sandwich with yogurt for breakfast because it holds me over the whole day if it must. All in all I would recommend if you only need a night but next time I will book much more in advance and somewhere else.
