Since they went Self Service the service has improved immensely.
The views from the terrace are very good and, even in bad weather, is well worth a visit/

We bought tickets to go up to the lakes at the ticket office in Zermatt. The girl that 'helped' us sold us quite expensive tickets. We made it clear we wanted to ride down not hike.We rode the funicular and a cable car and enjoyed the lakes. When it was time to come down our tickets would not work. An operator at the cable car sold us more tickets saying they would get us back to Zermatt but after riding the funicular down we were unable to exit through the turnstile. The girl who sold us the original tickets suddenly appeared and told us we had to pay yet AGAIN to be able to exit. She was rude and lied saying she did not sell us the original tickets. She accused us of trying to ride without paying. We ended up overpaying by a lot! This girl was very suspicious, she was skinny with stringy hair and a pimple on her nose. Very rude. The only rude person we encountered in the whole of Switzerland and the only trouble we had which was sad because this was our last day. If you buy tickets at the office by the tunnel to the funicular avoid this girl at all costs because I think she may be running a scam!

Our large group of 9 (two families) took the funicular up to Sunnega. Had a great lunch there and spent time relaxing in the nearby play area. The real highligh was taking the KickBikes back down the mountain into Zermatt. A great thrill ride for everryone, but especially for my 12-year old son.

Enjoyed sitting out on the patio staring at the Matterhorn from the restaurant. The ride itself was fast - only about 4 minutes. Steep. It was completely inside the mountain - no scenery. The trail seemed very steep. Take the free shuttle to Woolipark-park if you plan to descend from the station as well as ascend back to the station. Hiking sticks would help.

I couldn't find any restaurant there so we just spent some good time at the Leisee (lake nearby) and then herded back to the cable car that takes us up to Sunnegga funicular and went back to Zermatt. The last ride on the funicular here is 6pm so we took that on our way back after the tiring but enjoyable 5- Lake Walk.
