what an incredible view of the Matterhorn with the morning sun on its face. An even better chocolate fondue for two in the hotel's restaurant. the matterhorn suite has a wonderful ambiance with an incredibly comfortable chair to enjoy it in.

Room Tip: Ask for the matterhorn suite with the view of the mountain.

Our Ski Club visited here in January 2012. The site worked very well for our group of 32. We had the half board plan which ment we had the buffet breakfast and evening meal each day. The breakfast was well stocked with meats, eggs bakery and cereal goods and more. Dinner was a 4 course set offering each night
My take was that they fell between good and very good each night. The hotel has a very nice spa area with sauna's and steam rooms and other wellness activities. The hotel also has a pub that has one of the very few happy hours in Zermatt from 3-5 each afternoon.

The location was very nice. About a 2 minute walk to the funicular to Rothorn/Sunnega. About a 6-8 minute walk to the train to Gornergrat. About a 1 minute walk to the bus to Klein Matterhorn. About 5 minutes to the center of the village. There is both a Coop and a Migros a couple of minutes away for any grocery/beverage needs. The hotel probably rates a 3+ by Swiss standards- very well kept and clean. Definitely a place I would stay again.

Great hotel, very friendly staff, good clean rooms (some smaller than others), good food (plenty of it, especially breakfast), great bar area and restaurant, all round good value for money. Only a short walk to ski lifts. Definitely recommend the Perren if you're staying in Zermatt.
Will be back!

Room Tip: Room with a view of the Matterhorn is a must!

My husband and I just returned from an amazing week of skiing in Zermatt as our honeymoon. We had three choices of places to stay as part of the package we booked, and chose the Perren, with Matterhorn View.

I definitely recommend the Perren, and for getting the Matterhorn View - it's worth it to wake up every morning and check out the mountain, even from where we were on the first floor. The price is not too bad compared to other locations in Zermatt, but everything in town is pretty expensive.

The location is PERFECT as far as being w/in good walking distance of all the ski lifts, ski bus, and the main drags for shopping and restaurants. It's also very near several locations from which to rent skis; they recommend "Flex Rent" which is just a couple "blocks" down the road and right across the river from the train up to Sunnega / Blauherd / Rothorn.

The owners and folks at the front desk are very friendly and helpful. We got breakfast with our package, and both my husband and I really enjoyed what was offered for that meal. The yoghurts are local and EXCELLENT. I would recommend avoiding what's served in the metal box though - the eggs, sausage, and bacon were all a little . . . "off" from what I'm used to. The eggs tasted like they were from powdered eggs, the bacon was limp (why no crispy bacon, Switzerland??), and the sausage tasted like Vienna Sausages.

As a tip, if you are looking to save a few bucks up on the mountain, the Perren will allow you to make a sandwich in the morning w/ their delicious breads and deli meats and cheeses for only 4CHF for each sandwich. We did this every day after seeing the prices up on the mountain. The Perren staff will even give you little paper bags to take away your sandwich. We would supplement our meal with some snacks and bottled water we got at the Migros grocery store just up the road.

The room and bed were very comfortable, but the bed was a little weird. WE got the "double" bed, which is really just two twin beds pushed together. The gap between the two beds wasn't bad, but noticeable. Also, this means that the covers were only twin sized, so we both couldn't get comfy under 1 set of covers for the whole night.

The biggest drawback to the Perren is the wireless internet access. It was fine EARLY in the morning, but almost inaccessible or SUPER-slow any other time of the day. I hope they work to upgrade their current system. The Channel selection was good. As a tip, the CBS reality channel show really sweet, 10-yr old re-runs of Judge Judy in the afternoon. I was in heaven!

We never ate at the upstairs restaurant, and only once tried the bar / restaurant downstairs. The downstairs restaurant has a good selection, and the food was very good. We did not get the half-board, instead opting to try restaurants around town. That said, the half-board is probably the most frugal way to go, from what I can tell, for eating dinner vs. trying to eat around town. But you do miss out on some neat places around town.

All-in-all, we loved our stay in Zermatt and at the Hotel Perren. If we are so lucky as to make it back, we would definitely consider staying at the Hotel Perren

We have just returned from a magical week in Zermatt . In fact so magical...we have just booked again for next year. Hotel Perren exceeded all expectations. The food was great and plentiful, the rooms were spotless and the staff were most welcoming and helpful.
It was a memorable holiday for all the right reasons and we are already looking forward to our return visit........!

Room Tip: We stayed in a room in the new wing which was very spacious and ideal for a family.

Before we turned up, we did not really know what to expect from a 3 star hotel in Zermatt. Previously, we have generally stayed in chalets. We were pleasantly surprised.

1. Zermatt suffers from a lack of ski in/ski out accommodation. Whilst the Perren is not ski in/ski out, it is in a fantastic position. It is about 150m from the Sunnegga Express lift which gives great access to the whole mountain, and about 50m from the ski bus stop (out of the hotel and turn right - the stop is on the first bridge you come to), which is very convenient if your kids are having lessons with Stoked as they meet at the bottom of the Klein Matterhorn lift (it takes about 10 mins to get there).

2. The room was large and, even though there were four of us in the room, we never felt squashed. The bedding was good, including the pillows. Also, whilst not plush, the room was spotlessly clean and the bathroom had only recently been done up. The shower was really powerful. The attached photos are a bit dark and don't really do the room justice. We couldn't ski one day due to high wind and spent a number of hours in our room. We didn't feel cooped up at all.

3.The reception area and the dining room were a bit tired and uninspiring, but that wasn't where we spent most of our time.

4. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel, but the breakfast was good. There was a good selection of cheese and meats and fresh bread with homemade jams and there was also some hot food. We had kids and felt that we were tucked round the corner a bit with the other families with kids, but it was fine.

5. There were lots of English language channels on the TV, which was great for the kids; as was the fact that there is free WiFi.

6. The reception staff were very pleasant, as were the dining room staff. We asked if we could keep our room for a few extra hours and that was no problem. They will also pick you up and drop you off to the train station free of charge.

7. There is a good ski hire shop opposite and slightly to your left as you walk out of the Sunnega Express.

All in all, we would really recommend the Perren due to its location and its competitive price, particularly when you have four people in a room.
