“We will stay again in the Ambassador.”
Reviewed 2 January 2013

We travelled in a group of nine aged between 20 and 80. Everyone enjoyed the ambience. The staff were great. The chef effortlessly provided delicious variations on the set menu, for fish free, lactose free and vegetarian diets. The manager cleared a space and the pianist provided tunes so that we could dance.
Our room was a good size, had all necessary facilities and was comfortable. Swiss hotels tend not to have tea making facilities, so you may wish to take your own. We were on the ground floor and did not request a special view. After all, what does it matter mid winter when one is only in the room during hours of darkness.

9 family members spent a week here over Christmas 2012, and had a mixed experience regarding the hotel.

We had breakfast and dinner included in the price, both based in their downstairs restaurant, which, despite being recently refurbished, had a serious lack of character. No windows, no pictures, no paintings. Breakfast offered the usual mix of continental toast and croissants etc, as well as scrambled eggs, bacon, and an unlimited supply of coffee, hot chocolate etc. On the whole we found this perfect as there was a good variety and selection of foods.

For the evening meal, the food itself was in a set 5 course format. Throughout the week we were treated with a variety of nicely cooked meats, fish, pasta dishes and soups. One serious problem however was that the chef kept on using literally the SAME sauce for almost every meat (veal, beef, pork and lamb - and even once for a grilled fish/ lentils starter). It became so farcical that it ruined our experience somewhat, as we had to continually scrape the sauce off the meat as it was frighteningly salty and rich. To finish on a positive note, the wine selection was excellent.

It is worth mentioning that the waitresses were fantastic. Extremely personable, helpful and kind. For some of the children in our group we asked to change a few courses (e.g. fish soup), and this posed no problem at all.

The rooms in the hotel were perfectly fine. Try and ensure you get a south facing balcony as you will wake up facing the Matterhorn which never loses its appeal. Good shower, good storage facilities for clothes etc, and a built in safe, TV and mini-bar. There is also free wifi in the hotel, but the signal is unreliable.

This hotel has an excellent ski/boot room downstairs, as well as a swimming pool, sauna and hot tub. The bar, despite having a live pianist, lacks atmosphere, possibly due to their expensive (even for Zermatt) prices.

To summarise briefly, this hotel is currently a bit stuck between refurbishments, with half of the hotel looking like a characterless 70's establishment, and the other half looking a bit too modern and 'trendy' and an over use of green paint, and under use of pictures. Also, despite being there over Christmas, there was barely a hint of any decorations, which when compared to the majority of hotels in Zermatt made it feel quite budget. Aside from that, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and is well located in Zermatt. But please, please, get your chef to learn some new sauces, and stop over using salt in every meal.

Room Tip: Ensure you get a south-facing balcony for views of the Matterhorn

To begin with, the room (223) that we stayed comes with a balcony which opens to one of the most magnificient sceneries that a traveller can ever see - that of the Swiss natural beauty! In addition, we would like to mention that the hotel's staff is cordial and helpful. For example, when we enquired from the concierge on hiring a horse-carriage for a short tour of the vicinity, he instantly supplied us with the details that we wanted. What a helpful and cheerful guy! Though we were there for only a night of 16/12/12, we like the coziness and cleanliness of this hotel so much that we will be returning here soon for a longer stay.

With 4 young guys (son and friends 15-16), they enjoyed the simplicity, the swimming pool , playing cards before dinner in the bar. we had fun.
Of course this hotel needs refurbishment, new furnitures and new bathroom , new half-board but the price reflects the situation.
The views on the Matterhorn are outstanding, specially the morning when the sun is coming.

Room Tip: Ask for a view on the Matterhorn

Stayed at theis hotel which is near the train station. While the outside is pleasant, the inside looks like it hasn't been updated in 30 years. The beds were hard, the hotel had no amenities [not even a bar of soap] and the dining area in the basement was depressing.

Room Tip: All rooms facing front are noisy as they face a main street. We were there on a Saturday night anda...

Location of the hotel is great, close to the Zermatt station as well as very close to Gogornet station .Luckily for us we had a Matterhorn facing balcony, so first thing in the morning the mountain is at sight ...our room was very comfortable, cozy and very clean.
There is a swimming pool and sauna as well , which is fantastic

Overall its good value for money and if given a chance would definately go and stay there again

Room Tip: When booking ask for a Matterhorn facing room

Our 28 hours in Zermatt cost more than our two nights/three days in Florence, Italy. Typical of Switzerland though. The location was convenient to train station but on the opposite end of the center of town. The kids enjoyed the newly renovated pool. The breakfast was adequate but the selection was not the best. The hotel reminded me of visiting my elderly aunt's house in 1973. The views from the balcony were amazing.
