We've just returned from the Ambassador (5th-12th Jan 2013) This is the first review that I've written as I must recommend this hotel. It's only a short walk to the ski bus stop which takes you to all lifts and a short walk ( 150yds) to the Gonergrat railway. We booked late with a good deal and were pleasantly surprised by the 4th floor room. It was large, with balcony, mountain view ( not Matterhorn) and side on to the road and railway station. We were not disturbed by any noise. There was plenty of hot water and rooms were comfortably warm.Buffet beakfast offered usual selection of cereals, yogurt, fruits, croissants and bread as well as bacon, eggs and sausage.
The evening meal which was composed of 5/6 courses was excellent. Although it was a set menu, the staff always asked if we were happy with the menu and would have given us an alternative if desired. The menu was usually composed of salad, soup, possibly fish, then a meat course ( beef, veal, pork, lamb, chicken) followed by a desert and sometimes selection of cheese.
Staff were attentive to our needs and the manager reinforced this by coming to chat to diners most days. If we come back to Zermatt we would definitely book this hotel. (having already stayed at the Alpen resort)More
