The first thing you need to know is how to get there. It is at the opposite end of the village from the railway station, but a bus (Red Line) goes pretty much all the way. The stop is "Kapelle Winkelmatten" which is opposite a small church. There is a footpath (Winkelmattenweg) going off to the right and when it forks, take the fork. Any other bus leaves you a march up a steep hill, that could be a serious problem if the footpath is covered with snow or ice.
The lift station is at the bottom of that particular hill. We are skiiers, we are fit? Hell - I took the same bus back down the hill. The timetable is in the Hotel. One additional point on the bus: It does not stop at Sunegga, you have to march 150m upstream to "Vispa".
Every review here mentions Andreas the owner. He deserves it - very friendly and helpful.

Two sides of the hotel overlook the Matterhorn, one from the Balcony and one directly. The view at dawn is excellent. I believe the rooms on the "other" side are cheaper.

The evening meal is fairly limited, the hotel offers a fixed 4-course meal for a decent price. In theory no choice although they are very prepared to take account of (for example) vegetarians. The restaurant is only used by hotel guests and they like to know beforehand if you will be there or not so they know how much to cook. You want MORE? You get more - no questions asked. Excellent quality.
Breakfast is 7:30 to (I can't remember, the slopes were calling) 9:30 or 10:30. Ok; good without being amazing.

My guess would be that there are 12 rooms in total. They are a decent size - not palatial but not cramped either. One of our number did not like his bed, the rest were happy. I found the plumbing a bit loud: the occupants of the room next door have FINALLY finished showering.

There is a fitness room + sauna downstairs. I'm not sure that works - weight lifting in the sauna. We are skiiers, we do our body building on the slopes.

Finally, the Hotel was part of a package so I can't comment on "Value" although I am sure it was excellent.

Room Tip: View of the Matterhorn? Go for it. Andreas knows which rooms have one.

We just returned from a European trip in which we stayed in 15 hotels in 15 cities. I will only write reviews for the 3 best, and the Bijou makes the cut. Andreas was very helpful planning our few days in Zermatt. Location for skiing is ideal, as it is close to the gondola, but downtown is also just a short walk away. Food and drink in the restaurant/bar downstairs was excellent, as was the banter with our host and other guests. Gorgeous views of the Matterhorn from our balcony. Price (for Zermatt in high season) was very reasonable. You can tell that the hotel is operated by the owner and that he genuinely cares about the comfort of his guests.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights last February. Andreas & his staff are very friendly and helpful. We also love Andreas' very friendly black Lab pup. It is an owner operated hotel & it shows that Andreas enjoys his work & cares for his guests. Email and phone communications with Andreas were very responsive. Good communication prior to getting there really eases our minds since we have never been to Zermatt before. He helped us with the taxi transport from Tache, where we parked our car all the way to the hotel & back. That said, if you have lots of luggage and ski equipment, I highly recommend to take the taxi. It's quite a long walk and you have to go up the hill in paths that can be icy on spots. Other than that, location is very good as it is close to the gondola. The walk to town is about 10 minutes down the hill.

It is not a fancy place but the room is very clean, comfortable & warm. It is a chalet after all. There's a piece of chocolate waiting for us on the pillows. We had a room with a large balcony with a magnificent view of the Matterhorn. We had 2 queen size beds. Breakfast was good. It's served buffet style. There were eggs, all kinds of breads, meats, jams, fruits, granola, delicious muesli etc.

The price of the room might feel expensive for what you get, however, keep in mind that this is Zermatt in Switzerland. Switzerland is one of the most expensive countries in the world to visit and Zermatt is considered expensive even for Swiss standards. After comparing prices and what you can expect to get in town, you will see that Bijou is actually "reasonable". A stay at hotel Bijou in Zermatt is highly recommended. We will certainly stay here again the next time we visit Zermatt.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Matterhorn.

We stayed at the Hotel Bijou from March 9-11 and we were very impressed with the level of service and friendliness of the staff. I had booked the wrong dates and when I realized it, I managed to get in touch with the hotel and the owner Andreas changed the dates with no extra charge. Not many hotels would do that. The hotel was not very close to the train station or the center of town, but it is close to the bus(short 3-5 walk and a 10-15 min ride into town) and the cable cars up to the ski area. Overall it was a pleasant experience and if I ever return to Zermatt, I would definitely return to Hotel Bijou!

The owner Andrea and the staffs are very friendly and helpful. Nadine who was our waitress during our stay, she was always there to help us and making sure we were enjoying our stay. I have an eight year old who is a picky eater, Andrea and Nadine helped me with her meals. The chef makes the most delicious home make meals. My daughter was very happy to eat there every night. The hotel is suited on the hill and it has a fantastic view of the Matterhorn. It is very convenient to go up the mountain. The Matterhorn gondola is less than 5 mins walk down the hill. It is a prefect location for skiers. You can lock your skis by the Matterhorn gondola for 2 CHF per day. It is a easy walk to town if you prefer to eat out. Hotel Bijou is a family friendly hotel. We slept well every night.

Room Tip: There are rooms facing the Matterhorn. Make sure you request it.

Truly a hidden gem- as someone had mentioned. We really got tired while climbing the last 100m after 15mins walk from station. Had to call the reception to get exact location- we were *** tired even to walk 5-10 extra steps! Please do not go by any comment that '15 mins uphill walk', since the last 100mtrs did take out our last.
Hosts were very friendly. Did try their best to reinstate the WiFi and lent the office PC to provide me mail access- since I was in an emergency!
The scenery from our room was excellent- Matterhorn stood straight.
Setbacks- Double bed was actually two mattresses. Breakfast was very limited. Pick-up/Drop-off cost 20 CHF.

Large and clean room, and with nice Matterhorn view. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Really pet friendly (they took care of, and played with our dog). Great location, 100m from the ski lift. However, as the hotel is up on the hill, for skiers I would recommend renting a locker (for 2 CHF) at the ski lift.
