“great location /fantastic view of Matterhorn”
Reviewed 10 June 2012

when u rech Zermatt trainstation call up the hotel and ask for a pick up,they will send u a battery car that will take u to the hotel for a nominal charge .later at the hotel they will give u a card with a pin code by which u can access the lift by which u can come down to zermatt town which is only 2 minutes walking distance from the mouth of the cave lift. This arrangement is fantastic.
The hotel itself is a small ,cozy place run by a lady and her daughter from what i noticed.we had made our reservations thru booking.com and initially there was a hitch in our booking due to our own fault, my wife had forgotton to add our 11 yr daughter in the guest list but nevertheless the lady/propriotress prepared the extra bed and gave us a good room with fantastic view of Matterhorn at No extra cost. This gesture was unexpected bowled us completely.
The room was very clean and spacious and from yr bed u had the most amazing view of Matterhorn. this made our trip and we only wished we had planned our stayed here longer.
Theres a portugese guy named Miguel in the hotel who served us food and from what i noticed this guy is very special .he genuinely makes an effort to talk, wish and make conversation with all the guest ,something i did not see much in europe. kudos to guys like him who thru small deeds and gestures make other people's day. I wish him all the best.
The hotel also has a small indoor pool and spa area which my wife and daughter enjoyed very much.
Breakfast was a big suprise. The spread was fantastic and comparable to any 4 star hotel .
This hotel is worth all your money. kudos to the fantastic owners and staff. will definetly stay here if we come to zermatt again

Room Tip: ask for a room facing the Matterhorn n yr day is made!

Just returned from the Alpenroyal. Rooms are a good size, comfy beds, clean and attractive rooms, small balcony with great view of the village and Matterhorn at a suppliment. Restaurant and bar area very pleasant and comfortable, the heating was too high however and at times this was very uncomfortable to eat your meal. Travelled with Crystal on a halfboard option , no complaints at all in fact very organised and a good service overall.

Great choice of hotel, almost ski back to hotel from Sunnega area or ski bus and short walk through the strange tunnel underneath the hotel.

For halfboard, The breakfast was buffet style and had plenty of choice continental and hot English option everyday with smoked salmon once per week.

Evening meals were delicious a 4 course salad, soup or pasta main and sweet, but no coffee. No coffee team making either in room and a cuppa will set you back a fair few pounds. Wine and bar prices expensive. Waiting and reception staff were extremely freindly and pleasant.
A great holiday, very nice hotel would return and certainly recommend. High Bar and beverage prices, the over heating and no coffee included in evening meals or rooms only reasons for not giving this nice hotel a 5 star rating.

Room Tip: 34 or 36 perfect views.

Stayed for a long weekend in Feb. Overall it is a decent hotel. Great staff, excellent breakfast, half board is restricted to a fixed menu. If you're a veggie your options are limited.
Evening meal is between 6.60 and 9pm, so a reasonable spread of time.
Pool area is clean, with mountain views from the recliners.
Basic rooms are ok, not huge but a reasonable size, bathrooms compact. If you can pay the extra and go for the balcony and view. Great location for skiing.

All in all, this is a very reasonable hotel, with a nice reception/bar area and very nice staff.

Room Tip: Take one with a view of the 'horn.

I have just returned from a week's skiing in Zermatt, where a friend and I stayed at this hotel, as part of a CristalSki package.

We were half-board, sharing a twin-room.

The first thing that hits you on walking through the door is the friendliness of ALL of the staff, to everyone. They really do set a lovely and welcoming atmospere.

The quality of the food was excellent - an equivalent meal in a restaurant in Zermatt would be near the 80CHF mark, just for dinner.

The hotel is handy for the town, the station and the lifts.

Room Tip: Price will determine if you can afford a room with a balcony

I loved everything about this hotel. Beginning with the Matterhorn view. Our room clean, comfortable and cozy -- perfect. The staff was extremely accomodating and helpful. Food was great, loved every meal. Compared to American hotels, this one was warm and friendly with a unique charm -- very European. Over the week, we became friendly with the other guests adding to a truly international experience.

This was a once in a lifetime holiday; Zermatt is quite expensive compared to other destinations, but if the opportunity arose, I would definitely book the Alpenroyal again.

Thank you Isabelle and team for a wonderful stay. I wouldn't change a thing.

Room Tip: Loved the elevator that brings you from Zermatt up the hill to the hotel. Also, loved the Rothhorn...

Great hotel! Our photos from the balcony, looking at the Matterhorn, are spectacular.

The trick is getting there. My Google Map showed a mere 850 meters (12 minutes) to walk from the train station to the hotel. In addition, my travel agent said we could call the hotel and they would pick us up at the train station. Sounds good! Well, we arrived on the Glacier Express shortly before 5:00 p.m. and decided to window shop a little before calling the hotel. By the time I called, the porter had left for the day, and they couldn't pick us up. No problem, we'll walk along all the interesting stores, dragging our roller bags. Bad! The distance is almost all uphill and we were panting and angry by the time we arrived.

Thankfully the receptionist calmed us down quickly by pointing out that we should have taken the elevator from the river up to the hotel next door, and then up a few steps to the Alpenroyal. It would have been nice to know about that elevator!! So, call ahead, or call before 5:00 p.m.

Otherwise, this was a great choice. The bartender/breakfast maitre d' was very helpful -- spoke 7 languages and had the energy of 7 people. The electric cart got us back to the train station with no problems. And, we got wonderful shots of the Matterhorn from our balcony.

I definitely recommend this one!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Matterhorn and a balcony.

So nice to be wriying a positive review.
All the staff were so helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
The rooms were well decorated and comfortable. We asked for a mountain view and every morning we woke up to see the matterhorn in its many guises.
The hotel is situated above the village(hence the views) but is easily accessed from the village by a lift.
It is within easy reach of the village centre, the Sunegga lift and both stations.
We had a lovely week with good food and excellent weather and can thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a mountain view.
