We stayed at Pension Edelweiss on our recent trip to Switzerland. You have to earn the privilege to stay with a difficult climb...but definitely worth it. Bernadette and Edgar are genuinely kind and service oriented. The beds were clean and comfortable and a big plus is that Pension Edelweiss actually has a hot shower which is so appreciated after the hike up. We had delicious fondue for dinner and a great breakfast the next morning before continuing up the trail. Skip the fancy hotels and restaurants in Zermat for a night and experience a unique and great stay instead!

In the winter Edelweiss is one of those buildings far up the mountain side which you look at and wonder what it's all about. We found out during a recent summer visit. It's an absolutely gut busting 400m climb and hike to get there but that makes the views when you finally arrive even more worth it. The food is basic but good and who cares if you have yet another Rosti - you've earned it. Edelweiss also has rooms but they will have to wait for another year.
